Chapter 7

Elizabeth's POV

The next day...

It feels weird to not be working but I have to say that I enjoyed getting to sleep in until noon for the first time in ages. My roommates both came back not too long after Bruce left, both of them incredibly wasted. I had to haul their asses to the bathroom so they could puke a bit before putting them both to bed like little kids. I truly felt like their mother last night. It also opened up my eyes to the fact that I'm certainly not ready to be a mother yet. That's one of the farthest things from my mind right now.

Tony texted me out of boredom from his day off of doing nothing wanting to come over for dinner later. I texted him back saying "Sure. I'll make some chicken and pizza for dinner." He then texted me back telling me that he'll by over at six." I check the fridge and cabinets and see that we're low on a lot of things. I quickly make a list and then head to the grocery store. I make sure to get every single thing on the list, especially the chicken and pizza.

It takes me an hour to shop for what I need. A friendly middle aged woman named Patsy rings me up. I pay with my debit because I don't have enough cash on me at the moment. I grab my bags and carry them all the way home by foot. I'm a New Yorker but I'm not too big on the subway system. Thankfully, the market is only three blocks from where I live. If you must know what market it is, it's Trader Joes. They have a lot of healthy and unique items that most other grocery stores don't have.

Time passes by as I'm putting everything away and getting dinner ready. Before I know it, at six right on the dot, there's a knock at the door. I grin up at Tony. "Hey Tony, just in time. The chicken's done and the pizza will be out in a couple of minutes. Would you like anything to drink? Sadly I don't have any liquor. I mean my roommates might but I'm not twenty one for a few more months so I avoid touching it as much as possible." Tony smirks at me. "Sprite would be nice." I nod and pour him some Sprite into a glass.

"This is nice of you to do this for us Elizabeth. I also think this will be a good chance for us to get to know each other more, both as coworkers and friends." I nod in agreement. "So Tony, I have a question for you. What's it like being Iron Man? Is it everything you dreamed of and more?" Tony laughs. "That's one way to put it. It certainly has its pros and cons like anything else, but I wouldn't trade being a superhero for much. It means the world to me, though Pepper means more. Speaking of Pepper, I really can't wait for her to come home."

"Do you think you and Pepper will ever have children?" He grins at me. "That's something that I haven't been able to tell to everyone yet. Pepper and I are expecting!" I grin back at him. "That's amazing Tony. Congratulations! How far along is she?" "I think only two weeks. She found out at a doctor's appointment last week. She was shocked to be pregnant considering she's nearing 50. Well she's 48 but that's closer to 50 than 40." I go over and hug him. "Well I'm really happy for you." He hugs me back. We have a cute friend moment before I serve us both some dinner.

The food turned out to be delicious. I honestly could have been a chef if I wasn't a genius and science nerd. I want to cook for Bruce one day. He'll be my favorite test subject yet. Tony and I end up chatting away for hours. Before we know it, it's ten at night already. He needs to get home and get rest while I need to clean up and then getting ready for bed myself. We both wish each other good night and look forward to work tomorrow.

I pull out my phone and check to see if I have any texts or calls from Bruce. I have three missed calls and two unread texts from him. I immediately dial his number and he picks up on the second ring. "Bruce, I lost track of time today. I hope you held down the fort okay at work. Tony just left here a few minutes ago." He sighs. "It's okay love, I just missed you as well. Tony didn't bother you at all right?" "Tony's fine, I'm fine, and I hope you're fine. Are you?" "I'm good really. I can't wait to see you in the morning. I made some updates to the project that I want you to take a look at."

"Sounds like a plan. I'm sure the updates you made to it are great. I'll see you in the morning. Have a good night Bruce." I can practically hear him smiling into the phone. "See you in the morning Liz. Good night my love." We both hang up at the same time. I grin to myself for a moment before I finish the cleaning process and move on to the getting ready for bed process.
