"Now, Griffin." Came an fuzzy voice from the speakers surrounding me. "I want you to run as fast as you can to the wall and back," I growled. This was painful. All I wanted was to get back to my family. I wanted to leave this wretched place. Obeying his command I leapt into action. My speed had improved over the few days I had been here.... And I had some weird, talents I guess you would call them. Tucking my alien-like scaly wings tight against my back I hunched over, waiting for the electric buzzer the twentieth time.

The world seemed to pause as soon as the buzzer sounded. I sat there for a millisecond before my reflexes kicked into over-drive, pushing my legs off of the ground in one fluid motion, I was off trying to reach my top speed in a little over 100 meters. Back at school I was never a track star, I wasn't even very good in gym. But now I have to be good, or else I might not be able to survive the next coming months. I wish I had access to some form of a computer, then it would be easier to find out were that strange message had came from. It was getting harder and harder to remember things from my old life now, I could barely recall my parents names. Sterling said that was normal for most new hybrids, as the scientists probably did something else to our bodies when they implanted and made our own genes coincide with animals.

My hand slapped the wall with a solid sounding thump. Suddenly I realized that my lungs and legs were burning, as if the exertion was one they weren't used to, but they weren't really. This was the first time that I had actually done something on time, and been good at it too. Generally, gym and physical activity were never my strong suits. But these stupid people weren't giving me a choice. The voice was coming back, invading my thoughts and senses.

"You still aren't meeting the goal we had set for you at 10 seconds. Try again," It said, I could almost hear the frown that was obviously plastered onto his face. The buzzer sounded once more, queuing me to sprint down the cement box again. But I was done. Looking up at the camera on the wall rebelliously, I shook my head, hoping they would give me a break that lasted for longer than the time it took to write the results down.

Suddenly, I felt a bolt of electricity travel through my body, locking my muscles and chattering my teeth. It had came from the ankle bracelet around my calf, which they had claimed it helped measure my heartbeat.   It burned my very existence it seemed, burning until the emotionless scientists decided that I had learned my lesson. When the strenuous torture had finally been released, I let out a breath that I hadn't realized I had been holding. Covered in sweat, my hands slumped to my knees, I was shaking. This wasn't normal, I felt wrong...

"Again," came a curt and flat reply. Taking a deep breath, calming myself, clenching my fists. I realized that I didn't have a choice in this forsaken place, that I didn't have a choice wether I lived or died here. Glaring at the other wall, I started once again.

Later

I was back in my cage, every limp acing from the exertion they had just experienced, it had been brutal. The stupid tests that they had made us endure seemed pointless, but not to them. They made us run so many that I started to lose count.

"Are you alright?" asked a voice, it sounded worried and discouraged. I turned my head so I faced an anxious looking bird hybrid.

"I'm fine Sterling," I muttered, "just tired," I decided, although, I was more trying to convince myself more than him.

"Oh," he commented in a monotone voice, his eyes flicking up towards the door. He scanned the room for a moment before relaxing the tiniest bit. No one would really notice it, just a gentle relax in his shoulders really. His eyes still held determination in their green pools. "Just don't give up hope okay?" he said, looking at me. His tone was serious, as was his posture, and i knew he wasn't kidding around when he said it.
