A girl let out a huff, yawning loudly. She was napping atop some maple leaves "Sis! Did you seriously take a nap in there?"

The girl blinked, getting up. She rubbed her sleepy eyes "Of course I did, they were so comfortable how could I not?" she responded, yawning "Well, Momma not happy about it. She said you'll catch a cold or something."

"Ugh, I'm fine, I don't know how many times I have to tell her that," she grumbled, standing up and cleaning herself of the leaves "I tried telling her that you were okay, but she ignored me." the little boy explained.

"At least you tried. Thanks Nick," she said, messing up his already messy hair. He smiled up at her, his green eyes beaming up at her "Come on! While you were asleep I found a cool bug!" Nick chirped.

Nick took his older sister by the hand and led her back home. She rubbed her sleepy eyes, letting out a big yawn. Nick opened the porch door, letting go of his sister's hand "Momma! I brought her home!" Nick called out.

There was no reply. The girl's eyes widened. It was deadly silent inside the house "Nick, hide." She ordered him "Why?" He asked, his voice shaking "Just hide. Go in the pantry." She ordered him.

Luckily, he listened without further questioning. He ran inside the pantry, silently closing the door. The older sister grabbed a knife, slowly walking around the house. She checked the living room first.

She spotted a small drop of blood on top of the TV screen. She looked around, seeing no other blood splotches. She moved over to her mother's room. She heard low breathing and could see blood inside.

Her mother lay on the center of the floor, a pool of blood around her. The girl held back a gasp and forced herself to see her mother "M-Mika...?" Her mother rasped, her eyes resting on her daughter.

"I'm here Mother. It's going to be okay," she whispered to her. She sat down next to her mother "Who's in the house?" She asked her "2 men, I couldn't see their faces." The mother replied weakly.

She looked up at Mika "Where is Nick?" She asked, her gaze pleading and full of sadness "He's hiding in the pantry," Mika responded. The mother looked down at the ground "I'm not going to make it Mika..."

"Don't say that, Mother, of course you're going to make it," Mika insisted, staring down at her mother in disbelief "Mika, you know as well as I do that I don't have much time to live." She rasped.

Mika remained silent for a moment "Stay here," she told her mother, getting up "Mika, please-" She cut her mother off "I'm not letting you die here." Mika responded fiercely. The mother stared at her, but didn't say anything.

Mika raced back to the kitchen, pulling Nick out of the pantry. She reached into a cabinet and handed a first aid kit to Nick "Take this to mother, she's in her room. Try not to throw up, okay?" Mika told him. Nick nodded, racing to his mother's room.

Mika walked around the house, finally spotting one of the men. He whipped around, but Mika quickly stabbed his shoulder. He let out a screech, Mika quickly stabbing his hand.

"Don't move," she ordered. He fell to the ground, panting and covered in blood "If you move from this room, I'll stab both your legs, got it?" Mika snapped "Y-yeah, got it," he murmured, panting with fear "Good. Now where is your other friend?"

"He's outside, loading all the stuff into the car," he responded "Thanks, I'll be taking that," Mika snatched the man's gun "Hey!" He exclaimed, but Mika held her knife to his throat "Don't test me."

He gulped and moved back. She put the gun in her pocket, moving outside. She easily spotted the man loading a bunch of her and her family's stuff inside the car "Hey, dickhead, that's my stuff."

"Huh?" He turned to her, but she fired the gun at his left leg. He let out a scream of pain "You heard me, that's my stuff," Mika repeated herself. She snatched his hair, putting the knife to his throat "Wait!" He gasped, trying to stop Mika.

"What? Are you going to try to give me a pathetic reason not to kill you?" Mika asked, narrowing her eyes "Heh, we can talk about this right?" He asked, letting out a nervous chuckle "Talking is not needed."

"Shit," he cursed. Mika stabbed his shoulder, the man screaming with pain "Get up, I'm dragging you inside where your friend is." Mika ordered him, grabbing him by the neck scruff. He slowly followed her back inside the house.

He dragged his leg behind him, wincing. Once they were inside, she threw him into the room. He let out a yell of pain again, grabbing his leg "I suggest you both stay there before I decide to change my mind."

"Change your mind on what?" The second man asked "Killing you both." Mika responded. They both gulped nervously. Mika grabbed her phone, dialing 911. She told them her situation and quickly sent the police and an ambulance over.

In the end, the kid's mother managed to live, but would be stuck in the hospital for 2 months to recover. As for the two thieves, they were sent to jail for 3 years.
