For the next month and a half, Gidget could feel a slight change inside herself. Deep down, she was glad that she was no longer with Max. Now that she wasn't obsessed about him all the time, she had opened her eyes and saw the world in a way she hadn't seen it before. She was also thankful that she no longer had to worry about the Jack Russell terrier.

Eventually, everyone had heard about what happened and now Max was seen as an outcast by most of the others. The only ones who talked to him anymore was his brother Duke, Snowball at times and Norman, who talked to anyone no matter what. Everyone felt bad for Duke since he was living with the terrier.

Meanwhile, Gidget noticed that she was spending a lot more time with the rest of the gang. In the past, she spent so much time with Max that she barely knew anything about her other friends. Now that Max was out of her life, she discovered news things about her companions. For instance, she found out that Buddy was proficient at video games and Mel was great at board games. She learned a few words in parakeet from Sweetpea while learning that Chloe had a fear of cucumbers. By the end of one week, she finally found out that Ozone had a bit of an obsession with catnip.

Out of all the friends she had, Gidget believed that she spent most of the time with Tiberius, though it was more of he hung out with her. The old hawk would come over and they would either go flying around the city or go hunting in Central Park. Sometimes they would just sit around and talk about random things. Gidget also learned much more about her best friend than she had in the past when she was with Max, which made her feel a little guilty. She only just found out when the hawk's birthday was. As she climbed up the fire escape towards the roof, Gidget made a pact with herself to not let that happen ever again.

Finally arriving on the rooftop, Gidget padded over to the dark shed where Tiberius lived and entered to find the old hawk having a nightmare...
