Your brows furrowed when you heard a deep male voice in your kitchen. It wasn't who you heard, but what. Carefully and quietly, you padded toward the kitchen and peeked around the corner to see Abraham standing in front of the microwave. "You infernal contraption!" he cried, making you bite back a giggle.

Abraham had moved in with you shortly after you'd discovered he was your soulmate. Your over 200-year-old soulmate. You never expected a spell to bring out the Horseman of Death's humanity would lead to you finding out that he was your soulmate. It had taken a while, but you were beginning to trust him. He slept in your second bedroom and let you have your space, but he still did his best to try and get to know you. You were comfortable with each other, but that didn't help Abraham with modern technology.

"Aha!" Abraham exclaimed in triumph when he finally managed to get the microwave open. This time, you couldn't fight the laughter that bubbled up. Abraham whipped around to face you. "How long have you been there?" You grinned and shrugged. "Long enough." Abraham looked down sheepishly. "Hey," you cooed, making him look up at you, "It's alright. You're learning."

You poured yourself a cup of coffee and opened you mouth to speak. Unfortunately, your phone rang. Your boss. You groaned before answering. Abraham watched as your expression changed from peaceful to annoyed. "So much for my day off," you muttered when you hung up. You glanced at Abraham apologetically.

"I'm sorry. I know I said I'd take you around town today, but apparently it's an emergency." Abraham tried not to frown. He'd been looking forward to spending time with you, but he understood that you had a job you wanted to keep. "Well, you mustn't keep them waiting. There will be other chances, will there not?" You smiled and nodded. "Of course. I'll see you tonight. Maybe we could grab takeout for dinner." As soon as you were gone, Abraham pulled out the phone you'd gotten him and called the only person he really knew. Ichabod.

Ichabod knocked on the door not an hour later. "Abraham, what is it?" The friendship between the two was still a bit strained, but it was on the mend. "Y/N was called into work and she appeared very upset. I want to do something for her, but I do not know what a modern woman would like." Ichabod smiled. Abraham was adjusting to this time alright, but there was still much that he was unsure about. "Perhaps you could prepare a meal for her." Abraham laughed humorlessly. "Prepare a meal? I can barely get that infernal box to work." Abraham waved in the direction he meant. Ichabod corrected, "Microwave." Abraham rolled his eyes. "Never mind, Abraham. I shall assist you."

Several hours later, you opened the door to your home and kicked your shoes off. Your brows furrowed at the pleasant aroma coming from the kitchen. "Abraham?" You called out, you voice echoing through the quiet house. "In here, Miss Y/L/N." You rolled your eyes playfully at his continued formality. You followed your nose toward the dining room and found Abraham standing there behind your chair.

"You did this?" you asked softly as you felt your eyes beginning to water. "I had help. I asked Ichabod for a suggestion. He assisted in preparing dinner." You sniffled. "Why?" Abraham gave you a bright smile. "Because you deserve it, Miss Y/L/N. You work long hours, teach me about this time, and still manage to make meals for us both. I wanted to do something for you."

"Thank you, Abraham. I don't know what to say." Abraham merely smiled and pulled out your chair for you. Dinner was amazing and you told Abraham that he'd have to cook with you sometime. "I'd rather enjoy that." You cleared the table and did dishes with Abraham, the two of you laughing and talking the whole time. Abraham looked at you and wondered when it became so easy to be with you.

"How about some TV?" you asked when the last of the dishes were done. Abraham agreed, not really caring about the television. He only cared about spending time with you. The two of you moved to the living room and you sat on the couch. After a brief internal conflict, Abraham sat down next to you. He was still unsure about the casual attitude men and women had toward each other, but he was getting better about it.

The long day caught up with you quickly and you soon found your eyelids drooping. Abraham chuckled softly when he realized you had fallen asleep. Knowing firsthand how uncomfortable sleeping on the couch could be, Abraham carefully lifted you up in his arms bridal style and carried you to your bedroom.

Once there, Abraham carefully tried to lay you down on your bed. However, you had a death grip on his shirt. He didn't want to drop you or wake you so, he did the only thing he could think of at the time. He set you down and laid down next to you. He assured himself he would only stay until you released his shirt, but it wasn't long before his own eyes began to close and sleep overtook him.

The next morning, Abraham woke feeling a weight on his chest. He carefully opened his eyes and glanced down at you. Your (h/c) locks were fanned out behind you as you rested your head on him. His arms were wrapped around you and it honestly felt like the most natural thing in the world for Abraham. He gently tightened his hold and kissed the top of your head. Closing his eyes, Abraham reveled in the peace of the morning.
