The Amulet of Avalor gave Sofia the power to talk to animals. Without it, she couldn't talk to them. She was so upset that she started to sing.

HUGO: I know we'll find that jewel for sure

HUGO: We'll just keep looking all around

SOFIA: I feel like I've looked everywhere

But I'm not giving up just yet

HUGO: Could that jewel be here or there?

We really have to find...

SOFIA: Somehow I have to find

BOTH: Whatever it takes, we've got to find my/your amulet!

"Fortunately for us, Hildegard never put on the amulet, Sofia," Hugo declared.

"Oh, yeah?" Sofia asked.

"Yes, remember?" Hugo reminded her. "With each deed performed for better or worse, a power is granted, a blessing or curse. Hildegard stole the amulet from you, so if she had put it on, it would've put a curse on her that would've put Royal Prep in danger."

Sofia realized that Hugo was right. The Amulet of Avalor puts powers on its bearer for every deed performed, depending on how good or bad the deed is.

"You're right," Sofia agreed. "Not only does it have to stay this way until we find my amulet, but Hildegard would've found out my secret."
