Sofia remembered when she decided to try out for the flying derby team at Royal Prep—that was the same time she met Prince Hugo. But he and everyone else told her not to try out because they said it wasn't a princess thing. But Sofia didn't care; she decided to try out anyway and become the first princess on the team. But riding a horse wasn't that easy, especially with Hugo making fun of her for failing to do so—and he also made fun of her older stepbrother, James, for helping her. During the actual tryout race, Hugo made Sofia fall off her flying horse, Minimus, but with the help of James, she won first place. Of course, Sofia and Hugo didn't become friends until they won the Flying Crown for Royal Prep.

Now Sofia and Hugo are students at the Corinthian Sports School, and this school also has a flying derby team. They were both very much looking forward to trying out. However, recently, Hugo had been out with a sprained toe from a Dazzleball accident, but luckily, he was feeling a little better, so he and Sofia could practice for the tryout race.

It was Sunday night, and Sofia and Hugo were talking to each other through their Enchantlets.

"Feeling better, Hugo?" Sofia asked.

"Much better, Sofie, thank you," Hugo smiled. "I'm glad I've recovered in time to start practicing for flying derby."

"Me, too—but if you make me fall off Minimus again, I'll turn you into a skunk," Sofia playfully threatened.

"Oh, no—please don't," Hugo played along. "I don't want to be stinky." He and Sofia couldn't help laughing. "Well, we'd better get to sleep if we're going to get a head start on practice tomorrow."

"Right," Sofia nodded. "Good night."

"Good night," Hugo smiled.

Sofia and Hugo ended their conversation just as James came into her bedroom.

"I don't suppose you and Hugo are going to be that way during tryouts," James chuckled.

"Well, it's better than the way he treated us when I first met him," Sofia smiled.

"That's for sure," James grinned. "Sofia, I'm rooting for you—you know I am—but are you sure you want to do it? Some of the other riders at the Corinthian Sports School will be bigger than the ones at Royal Prep."

"Just because I'm small, it doesn't mean I shouldn't do it," Sofia declared.

"Well, I'm sure you and Hugo will do great at tryouts," James smiled.

"Thanks, James," Sofia smiled.
