So I'm going to cement this now.

Sonic '06, despite how bad of a game it was, was one that I can find myself enjoying.

With ChaosX producing Project '06 practically by themself, I was able to play a version of a game that actually fixed the gameplay mechanics for so far two out of three characters; all of which desperately need it, but with what we've seen so far of Silver's gameplay in Sonic and Shadow's stories, things are looking promising.

Unfortunately, due to it being again a one man team, only the regular story levels are available for both characters and no boss levels or cutscenes. But with the one cutscene he released his remaster of, already a few things were improved upon.

But, I actually like the game. I like the story. I think the story had a good intention but with poor execution to make the 15 year release mark. But because of the critics from the time of release, SEGA's poor choices as well as Sonic Team having 1. Split up again to work on Secret Rings and this game, and 2. Not listening to game testers to push back its release date to be able to release a finished game, it has negatively affected the franchise as a whole and with that, Forces as the latest main series game shows just how bad we need games with actual stories.

Unfortunately that's never going to happen because SEGA mandates and whatnot but I don't really give a shit about those if I write fanfiction, now do I?

So here's what I'm going to do. I'm rewriting the story behind the game. I'll throw in actual level scenes as well, but just note that they're mostly going to be skipped over asides from ones like Crisis City, Shadow's White Acropolis, and most of Shadow's and Silver's level scenes. Sonic's I could, but those would drag on for fucking hours or be the most poorly written segments as even in the game, there's not much to write off of. And since I value good quality writing into my scenes (as of my latest stories) instead of how much of the story can I retell without saying the exact same thing, I'm not willing to lose my sanity over writing lines like, "Running through the beach area was not something Sonic was really up for. Having just watched the princess being taken, he chased Eggman as far as he could, taking down his robots and narrowly escaping being turned into lunch a couple times with Tails pulling him out of the rut. But as he finally was close enough to where a final push could've been made to grab onto the aircraft, he was forced to stop as the area where sand was still able to walk on had ended, and the evil genius had taken off laughing at their defeat with the princess in custody."

And see, that literally explains Wave Ocean in about three sentences whereas the game has you actually experience it instead of reading or listening to it.

Two. Since I am not a game developer and can't actually give you guys something to do to either skip dialogue or to speed run anything, the "Yada Yada effect" that slows the game down immensely is actually something I'm going to take into full use. And since you are reading what I'm writing, I'm not afraid to care what you guys think. I can drag out conversations that are substantial to the plot while also keeping the world around them moving at the same time.

And just like the games, I'm going to split this story up into three parts. No I'm not saying I'm writing three different stories at once for this game, but instead I'm doing something I haven't done since I abandoned (yes I'll officially say I've abandoned that story as I no longer have any intentions with moving it forward) When It All Took a Turn for the Worse. Where I'm telling three stories in the same book, but with each chapter switching perspectives between the main characters. And it will go in this order as the game pretty much expects you to play this way. Sonic's perspective will be the first chapter, Shadow's will be the second, and Silver's will be third. And it will switch like that all the way up until the Final Story arc.

Now. I'm pretty much going to have to rewrite Sonic a lot here. Only because in the game, he's the only one out of the three (despite his name being the title) who has the least character development due to him being written as a flat protagonist.

For those of you who don't know what a Flat Character means, it's essentially when a character-usually the main one- already has a clear cut idea of what their motives and morals are from start to finish. However, '06 was the game out of his that actually uses this concept the worst, and Sonic and the Black Knight, or even SA2 were the ones that used it the best. Basically, it keeps Sonic clueless and only focused on the here and now without having him focus on what's all around him (nor does he seemingly care about the fact that some guy he's never even met before already wants to kill him on first contact). It's just, "Shit, Elise isn't here? Better go find her! Trying to kill me? Not my problem, later!"

So that's going to change. He's going to want to be more invested with what's going on and why certain situations are happening.

Silver I don't think I need to change that much. Maybe like a couple lines with a little more distrust for Mephiles (or Memphis Tennessee, for you Snapcube viewers out there). Also, I never thought about this before, but Blaze essentially was only in the game because of the fact that she was well received in the Rush games that the developers just rushed her into the plot, and while it works, I'm not necessarily a fan of how she just doesn't care about having to kill someone, worrying about her friend, and then dies at the end. So I'm going to tweak her a bit too.

Shadow's probably the one character I won't have to change at all. Considering the fact that he's literally at his best here (since Shadow The Hedgehog flopped and Heroes just found a way to shove him back into the games). Team Dark as a whole was executed perfectly and their dynamic was always something I enjoyed over Team Sonic or Team Future.

Lastly, I'm going to get this out of the way now, I don't like Elise as a character. The way she's executed was severely lacking and I need it to change before I kill myself. I get that Sonic was her first friend, the first person she could really open up to with her past and even have moments where she can be herself and not a princess. But I don't think the love dynamic has ever turned out great for any Sonic game, and this is coming from someone who hasn't played the love simulators because fuck you, that's why.

But since this is a big project, I am willing to take up (for the very first time) beta testers and editors. If you would like to be one of the lucky folks that goes through my story and fix all the mistakes I've made, please follow the instructions.

For FF.N users, leave a comment on this page and tell me either your past stories or ones that you've helped.

For Wattpad users, send me a DM or add me on discord. My user link is in my bio and you can message me there and whatnot. Send me some stories you've worked on and I'll review them.

Anyways, aside from that, what do you guys think? Wanna see it happen? Let me know!
