I almost stopped dead as I stepped inside the lift, panting.

There was a girl.

I had never seen her, so I assumed she was either someone from elsewhere, or a new neighbour.

She was wearing the school uniform of a different school from mine, so both of the options were to be considered.

I realized I was staring at her as she stared back at me, so I turned away and waited as the lift brought us to the ground floor.
