WELCOME to "Splinter Child."

This story has been two years in conception for me, and I'm thrilled you've decided to drop by and have a peek. If you've visited my profile, you'll notice I'm a big fan of all things horror, fairy, and historical, and I hope to continue blending these big three for an eternity.

I've always been intrigued by how dark the original roots of the Disney-fied "Sleeping Beauty" actually are. Like most fairytales, it encapsulates a vein of behavior and thought that sometimes holds a greater truth. I struggle to find the enlightening life lesson in Giambattista Basil's 1634* version, "Talia, Sun, and Moon." If anything, it's a cautionary tale, a reminder that written words can either shape or emulate what society considers acceptable. And unfortunately, those elements don't often change, even after 400 years.

"Splinter Child" was my chance to twist my version of Talia/Briar Rose/Sleeping Beauty and give it the hungry, bloody, metal backdrop of the 1800s American West. It's a work in progress, but hopefully, you'll enjoy the journey with me!

     xoxo
