"These guys just keep coming!"
Cam shouted.

"We have to hold out just a little longer!"
Maria fired her gun at another soldier.

"We don't have much longer!"

The Avenger's building was being overun.

SHIELD agents were falling left and right, the Avengers were almost out of energy, and Lucas still had yet to show himself.

"Cam!"

He spun around and saw Lyra, half carrying and half dragging Jane.

Oh please no...

Cam ran over to her.

"What happened?"

"I don't know, we were fighting and then... She just..."

Lyra tried to hold back her tears.

Cam inspected Jane.

"It's ok. She's alive."

But she probably doesn't have her powers.

"Cam!"
Maria shouted.
"We have to move!"

Cam carefully lifted Jane into his arms.

"Let's go!"

The three of them ran from the oncoming soldiers.

There were too many!

There's no way we're all going to survive this.

"Anthony! Behind you!"

Anthony spun around and shot a soldier who had been about to stab him with a knife.

Too close

Anthony checked on Tony, he was managing on his own, but they couldn't hold out much longer.

I'm surprised that you haven't found me yet.

Anthony froze when he heard Lucas' voice in his head.

Where are you?!

I'm about to leave this place, I've got what I came here for...
But first, I'm going to leave you all with a little warning.

What are you doing? Lucas!

He was gone.

"Tony!"

"What?"

"We have to get to the front of the building!"

"Why?"

"That's where Lucas is going!"

Lucas bided his time.

He knew that sooner or later the Avengers and SHIELD agents would be forced outside.

His plan was coming along perfectly.

He had acquired two more super powers.

He would take one more, and then he would leave his warning.

Right on schedule.

Thor was on top of the Building; he was summoning a huge storm.

He brought down bolts of lightning onto Lucas' soldiers.

Lucas took out his gun and aimed it at Thor.

Your power is mine....

Suddenly Lucas was knocked out of the sky where he had been flying.

He'd been spotted.

He cursed under his breath as he watched Storm fly towards him, sending a huge bolt of lightning at him.

Lucas used his speed and dodged it.

If he couldn't get Thor's power; then he could settle for hers.

He fired his gun, Storm didn't have time to react.

She gasped in pain and fell out of the sky towards the ground.

Lucas smiled.

Four powers should be enough.

He turned his attention towards the fighting.

Now there's one last thing I need to take care of.

Thor had caught Storm beforw she hit the ground.

He found Pietro and handed her to him.

"Get her somewhere safe!"

Pietro nodded and sped off, returning a few minutes later to rejoin the fight.

Everyone had been forced outside.

The soldiers had driven everyone out and the fighting showed no signs of stopping.

They were outnumbered, and were slowly losing strength.

Everyone was paired up with at least one person.

No one risked fighting alone.

A roar sounded from the inside of the Avengers Building.

Hulk crashed through the wall and into the middle of the fight.

His arrival was welcome, but unfortunately did little to put the odds back in their favor.

The stronger Avengers were protecting the weaker ones.

Logan, Elizabeth, Annette, and Storm's arrival had lifted everyone's spirits; and SpiderMan's.

Of course how he got there in the first place was a mystery but no one really cared at the moment.

They needed all the help they could get.

Suddenly ShadeSlayer's voice boomed around them.

"Why do you continue to fight even when you know you are beaten?"

No one had time to find out where the voice was coming from, they still had to keep fighting.

"You may have defeated other enemies before, but now you have met your match."

"I am becoming more powerful than all of you. One by one I will destroy you all. Starting with your leader."

Steve!

Elizabeth struggled to find him in the chaos.

After hearing what ShadeSlayer had said she knew immediatley that Steve was the one he was going to kill.

Elizabeth suddenly caught a glimpse of him.

"Steve!"
She shouted.

He glanced in her direction and began fighting his way towards her.

There were too many soldiers!

Suddenly a huge gunshot exploded over her.

She fell to the ground, her ears were ringing from the noise.

When she looked up everything was a blur.

She saw the soldiers running past her, retreating.

Once they were gone she struggled to stand.

Steve

She looked around for him, wherever she looked people were getting back to their feet.

Except for the person Elizabeth's eyes landed on.

No... Oh please no....

Tears ran down her face, and from behind her someone screamed.

The first blow had been dealt.

And it was only the first of many.
