okay! i'm ready to talk about weirder things, my stranger things inspired original/apply fic! so, for starters the book has been revamped for the better because my writing has improved along with my character work, creativeness, etc....i know it's kind of getting popular(with 7K views and at least a hundred votes) but! i would like some more recognition and i just want to brag about how it's my favorite out of all my books!

first i'll start with the original idea with the original casting: who i all adore sm. the original idea for this book was for it to be a stranger things recast where people apply for it and make their own characters in the this new stranger things universe! there are good things about it but there were bad things, starting with the good things: there were new monsters that the characters had to face during this series(which everyone seemed to love), relationships/friendships were pretty developed with the screen time they had gotten, lots of characters had gotten decent development within the timing i had in each episode i limited myself too, and everyone had a good time!

some bad things were that some characters weren't developed how i wanted to, i changed some characters into just carbon copies because i didn't KNOW how to write some, and some trauma/issues with the characters were just brushed to the side. now, obviously it wasn't all bad but these are just some problems i had so eventually...i revamped it!

2/2 now onto the REVAMPED VERSION! which i'm really proud of actually!!

it has new monsters that have different abilities from the ones in the original version AND from stranger things, i have A PLANNED OUT STORYLINE that will kind of follow stranger things but hopefully feels different and thought out, characters will DEVELOP!! and grow and get more screen time with each other as just people!, it's a bit coming of age as characters will fight certain things while growing up but the horror/science fiction aspects are still there!, characters will die and not because i just want them to but because i feel that would create some other characters to go through things and maybe become independent or even because i want other characters to go through arcs or have baggage on them!, will discuss serious topics and have characters deal with depression/other mental illness, there's A TRANS + INTERSEX OC which you never see often, slow burns and romance will feel a lot smoother!, and my writing/descriptions have gotten better to the point of me feeling proud to write this way better! now i could go on and on but i'll stop here and just say, that this is one of my favorite fics and I would appreciate if you would apply or just give it a read because i think it deserves it!! <3

MY OPINIONS —

So, to be upfront: I was part of the original Weirder Things! I've actually reapplied with my OC, Iggy, but to be honest with 51+ applications, it's not at all guaranteed I'll get back in. But honestly? I don't even care! I'm so excited to see how this new version of the fic goes.

The original apply fic has always impressed me. When it was revamped, it was two episodes into season 3. With an episode per chapter — and writing about 99% of each episode — that is a massive amount of writing. Something that was really exciting when most apply fics don't make it even two chapters in at all. The community was so positive and I enjoyed talking with everyone. It followed Stranger Things with changes to fit the new time period and different characters.

My favorite had to be the way the Will character was split between twins — Tris and Theo. However it didn't stop with them being two different characters. The "Dart" parallel was two creatures, one of which are the other, and later on Theo would betray the main character while Tris fought to warn them about the Lich (their version of the Mind Flayer.) Basically, parallels, either intentional or accidental. 

Tris isn't there anymore for character restraints, but it shows the kind of writing you get.

I admit, as much as I loved the story, I can see what the author means when they said the original was locked to the canon plot too much and the characters became copies of their canon version.

To give my best example, my character, Iggy. He was pretty quickly deemed the "Dustin" of the book. Which sort of worked with his personality — I have to admit I based him off a mix of Dustin and Mike. However, at the end of season 1, his father was killed by Nini in front of him (his father worked for the lab, and it was the scene where they cornered them in the school.) Which was terribly traumatic, and on top of that  he couldn't say anything because everyone was missing Nini and worried about Nini, who he also missed but is also partly mad at because, well, he kîlled his dad.

There's a lot of stuff to work there. But like I said, Iggy is the Dustin. Dustin who is mostly a comedic character. So, while there are some hints at Iggy's trauma — he keeps the creatures because he saw them as a chance for some sort of friendship, he bonded with the "Steve," Hèctor, as a father figure — but most of the time it was glossed over.

I loved the story, it was a really interesting take on the Stranger Things plot, so I really didn't care. Which is why I'm so excited for this new version! I've seen the author's plotting in other apply fics. Their plots are really good. A good plot based on another good plot. I can't wait to read.

The story closes July 25th. That's super close, I'll admit, so you reading this might not be able to apply. But I would suggest reading anyway if you're a fan of Stranger Things.
