i. : FALL
I remember
many things
THAT NIGHT
damp soil and icy air
your lips untouched and cold,
arms and legs arching around mind, swallowing my heat
YOU
mouth of rustling words,
restless in my ears, wind bellowing
(maybe, like a flight of eagles— Were you the shadow I saw?)
would be a fit description
a rage, rebellion
against time
we were running
TOO FAST TOO QUICK TOO SOON
WIND WHIPPED
LASHED AND GNASHED YOUR SKIN,
A GAME OF TAG IN THE FOREST
THICK, RED AND HOT OOZING, WOUNDS SPLITTING AT MY ARMS AND CALVES
BUT I DIDN'T CARE
BECAUSE
it was me in the crook of your neck, musk, sweat
and by the time the moon hid away,
bare bodied, I thought,
what a dreamlike surrender this was.
ii. : SUMMER
hotter than the midday sun
sweltering wax like a digger in the fields
or maybe October leaves
(crunch beneath your boots — you loved that)
stains of burnt crimson and charred sable
in the soft soil
I sat lost in warm wind
NOTHING BUT
PLUMES OF YOUR SMOKE
A TRAIL OF SUNKEN EMBER FOOTPRINTS
YOUR FINGERS THICK FLICKS OF FLAMES
TEASING, PLAYFUL, BUT BLAZING
I learned
after being courted by
YOU
and skeleton willow trees(— I'm all alone)
THAT NIGHT
wasn't as
painful,
can not compare,
to this golden hell you've left me with.
