It Bothered Me

Humans were the most intelligent life form on Earth, yet they lacked common sense when it mattered the most. People hardly ever paid attention to anything they didn't deem worthy. It didn't matter to them that this thing could be important for others. Humans were selfish, and that's what I hated about them. Of course, they were equal regardless of their gender or race. There couldn't be any doubt about that, yet so many doubted it, believing themselves to be superior to certain groups.

That wasn't something I could stomach easily. Equality shouldn't even be a question. It shouldn't be something for humans to debate about in the twenty-first century. It was a universally accepted fact, but humans were not aware of that and that bothered me.

"Do you know the most beautiful thing about humans?" My friend's question brought me out of my thoughts.

"I don't know any beautiful thing about humans," I said.

"They always come around," he said. "No matter what, they always find their way out of darkness, sooner or later."

"Just look at them," I said, pointing towards the screen. It showed three different scenes from Earth. "All I see is darkness." In one scene, communal violence was going on. In the second one, people were protesting to change their chosen head of state and in the last one... that was the worst. What had they called it? Ah, yes, ethnic cleansing.

"Wait and see." My friend smiled. "They'll find their way out of this."
