"That man is a menace," Sarah grumbled, "why anyone would bother asking his opinion is beyond me?" She was sitting in her favorite armchair, knitting.

"What are you muttering about?" Her husband asked, his eyes glued to the TV.

"Nothing for you to worry about," she said, "You can keep watching that pointless talk show."

"My dear, talk shows are never pointless. These are important things that they debate on. You should listen to them sometimes. You might learn a thing or two about this world."

"No thanks, I don't need some stupid man talking about things that are as obvious as the day."

"He is not stupid," her husband stated, annoyed. "He has three PhDs."

"So?"

"So?" he said, shocked at his wife's nonchalance. "It proves that he is an intelligent, well-read man who knows things. Things that you and I don't know."

"The things you and I don't know are the things we don't need to know," she said, sighing. "There is no reason for us to know every shitty thing that's happening in the world. Why should we listen to others talk about them?"

"Well, these things matter," he said. The truth was that his wife's statement had made him thoughtful. Indeed, why should they care about climate change or global warming? It wasn't like these things had any impact on their lives. Besides, they already had one foot in their graves.

"All I need to know is how to take care of my orchids," she muttered, "Silly men! What do they know?" She wished her husband would find another hobby. Gardening was a fine one if you asked her.

"Forewarned is forearmed," he said, more to himself than his wife. He was answering his own question. Of course, climate change mattered. Even if they didn't have long to live, there were younger generations to think of.

"What are you talking about now?" Sarah could never truly understand her husband and his ramblings.

"I'm telling you why I watch these programs. We do need to know everything going around us," he said in a firm tone.

"Go on then. Keep watching that depressing show. While I must water my orchids."
