Marinette stood watching the line where heaven touches earth. Her wide bluebell eyes witnessed the resounding glowing collision. Sparks lit the sky and blood poured, as the glory of paradise descended further behind the seam of the world. She felt small as she glanced over her shoulder and saw her shadow slowly shrinking towards her feet. She looked back to the line, only a few bright streaks remained to signal heaven's passing.

The sun had almost set.

She walked around in the almost desolate streets, sketchbook clutched tightly as she thought about her life so far. Her parents, Alya, Nino and Adrien.

Adrien.

She felt her heart flutter at the thought of him and his stunning emerald green eyes. Oh, how she could get lost in their beauty, her soul floating in the depths of sparkling green. Her excitement at his mention soon disappeared however, as a feeling of sadness washed over her. She didn't have a chance with him. He himself had told her he was in love with another girl. That day had crushed her. She could still feel the aching remnants. But she was trying to move on. But Marinette had decided that she wouldn't make a move on him. Instead, she would be his friend. She would try and tend to his needs, be there for him to talk to, let him cry on her shoulder.

That was all she needed.

She continued walking, her feet taking her to the Eiffel tower.  She sat down in a bench, opened her sketchbook and marvelled at the gorgeous sight when she noticed a lone figure up on top of the tower. As she got closer, she recognized the tight black suit, the belt set to look like a tail and the 2 ears nestled in between his golden hair.

Cat Noir

She hastily put away her sketchbook and stood up, alarmed. Did she miss a patrol? Was she really that forgetful? Crap

She took a few steps forward, but immediately stopped as she fully absorbed what she was seeing. He stood at the top of the tower staring out at everything, the light dancing on his black costume and rainbows cast on his face. But what she noticed were the tears falling one by one on the lone rose he held in his hand.

She felt herself crumble as she climbed the steps that would lead her to Chat Noir. She hated seeing him like this. He was so pure, his kindness one in a million. He didn't deserve to cry, not one single tear should fall from his green eyes

His emerald green eyes.

The ones that reminded herself so much about...Adrien

She pushed all thoughts away as she reached to top, Chat Noirs back facing her. She walked up to him and hugged him from behind, willing all the love she had to go into him so she could stop those heartbreaking tears from falling again. She felt him freeze momentarily, before relaxing again. They stood like that for a minute or so before he turned around to look at her

"Marinette"

"Chat"

She stood up on her toes and wiped away the remaining tears that slid down his cheeks.

Under normal circumstances, she would be a flustering mess, not daring to go near him in hopes of keeping her identity a secret. But right now...right now he needed her. When she looked into those familiar eyes, she saw the anguish and hurt. They were dull. She hated that someone had the heart to remove the cheeky sparkle that was always there and replace it with a monotone sheen instead. She wanted to bring the life back into them, she couldn't bear the sadness that radiated of him.

"What are you doing here, Marinette? It's getting dark and you should go home, you know. Just in case anything bad happens...

Marinette immediately saw through the charade he was putting up. He didn't want her to see him like that. Pft, as if she would leave him all alone here sobbing to the blood sky

Chat, I'm not going to leave you here all alone. Y-you mean so much to me, you're one of my most special friends. It hurts me to see you so sad, and I will do everything in my power to make sure that you go home feeling better. I want to become better friends with you, Chat. I want you to be yourself around me. I want you to laugh with me, to cry on my shoulder when your sad, to just enjoy life in general. I don't want to see you cry anymore, Kitty. Because if you cry anymore, then I'm going to cry as well.

Marinette was so overcome with emotion that tears started to fill her eyes and spilled onto her cheeks. She meant every single word that she had said to him.

Chat Noir looked stunned. Did she say anything wrong?  She felt self-doubt creep inside of her. What if he hated her now? But then the flicker of a smile appeared on his face. She looked up. The tears were still there. So she pulled him down with her and hugged him close as his tears started up again.

He sobbed into her chest unceasingly, hands clutching at her jacket. She held him in silence, rocking him slowly as his tears soaked her chest. A tiny lapse let him pull away, blinking lashes heavy with tears, before he collapsed again, his howls of misery worsening. The pain must have come in waves, minutes of sobbing broken apart by short pauses for recovering breaths, before hurling him back into the outstretched arms of his pain.

A single rose fell from the top of the Eiffel Tower and down onto the cement base, lying there as the wails of a Chat sunk into the night.
