This takes place after the group agreed to help Eloise.

As the group turned their attention back to the bakery, Spencer wouldn't take his eyes off Eloise. As soon as her eyes met his, he gestured for them to step outside for a minute.

"Is everything ok?", asked Eloise.

"I knew something was wrong", said Spencer.

"You did?"

Spencer nodded. "You put on a good show, but I could tell you were stressed about something."

"Really? I didn't think anyone would've noticed", said Eloise. "Guess I gotta get better at hiding it", chuckled Eloise.

"Don't", said Spencer. "My dad hid that he was ill. He kept trying to do all the things he used to do with me. It tired him out too much. Made him worse."

"Spencer..."

"I'm not saying this to make it all about me. When you saw me having that panic attack... I was so scared. Scared that my big secret was out. But... you finding me? It was probably one of the best things that ever happened to me."

"It was?"

Spencer nodded. "Because I knew I didn't have to do it on my own anymore. And you're not going to do this on your own either. I've got you, ok?"

Eloise couldn't help but smile at Spencer's genuine kindness. A goofy grin appeared on her face, and she held her hand up, balling her fist and raising her pinky finger up.

"Pinky promise you got me?"

Spencer playfully rolled his eyes. After a few seconds of trying to hold back his smile, he gave in, before reaching out and wrapping his pinky finger around Eloise's.

"Pinky promise I got you."

Eloise grinned and squeezed their pinky fingers, swirling them around in a circle repeatedly.

Spencer gently shook his head and chuckled.

"You're an idiot, you know that right?"

"Yep!", agreed Eloise.

The pair walked back into the classroom, their pinky fingers still linked.

_ _ _

Eloise and Spencer's friendship is so special, because it's one built on trust. They're able to be vulnerable with each other because they trust that the other won't judge. They are similar in some ways though, and that can lead to them both hiding their feelings in order to not be a burden on others. I really like their friendship, and the fact that Spencer was the one to see she was struggling shows how much he looks out for her, and how well he knows her.
