Feather's point of view

I squealed in alarm as the rock underneath me split in two. Before I could make any movements, Another arrow whizzed past my head.

A jolt of fear ran through me as I started looking around frantically, searching for the source of the arrows.

All of a sudden, I see a blur of movement as a figure moved across the roof of the house. I watched closely as the figure drew back their bow again.

They watched me closely, and let the arrow go. Right before it landed, I knocked it aside with my cutlass.

Without a hint of resistance, I start running towards the house. The figure seemed to jump back, a little startled.

In a few short moments, I stood by the wooden structure. Silently, I curse myself for not having my climbing claws with me. If I did, I'd probably already have my cutlass coated in this stranger's blood.

Before I could think of any solution, the solution was brought forth once I saw the figure climbing down the side of the house.

"HEY!" I shout. The figure turns their head over to me. They don't do anything, instead, we stared at each other for a moment.

With a deathly sssshhhhhiiinnnkk, the figure pulls out a silver sword and dropped towards the ground. They started approaching me.

"Well done so far." A familiar voice rang out as the figure stopped a few feet in front of me.

I felt my heart stop once I saw Brandon's radiant smile.

"B-Brandon!?? I t-thought we were going to t-train???" I said, not trying to keep the disbelief out of my voice.

He didn't seem phased. Instead, his smile seemed to grow a little.

"We are!" He dared to raise his eyebrow playfully. "We started training ten minutes ago!"

I narrowed my eyes.

"I don't appreciate being tricked like that," I remarked. His eyes flashed a small amount of concern and his smiled faltered a little.

"I j-just wanted to see how you'd deal with a surprise attacker.... you did pretty well." Brandon gave me a half-hearted smile.

Brandon's Point of View

"Now." I quickly started before she could reply.

"I want you to attack me."

She looked at me, a confused expression on her face.

"Why?"

I laughed to myself.

"I want to see where you're skills are at. Last time we trained together was....."

I stopped myself.

Last time we trained together.... was that one night.... that late night... a few months ago.

"Something wrong?" Feather's voice seemed cloudy.

I immediately brought a smile back to my face.

"Not at all!"

I can't let her know anything is wrong.

I can't let her know how much this is breaking me.

I can't let her know that I've been a fool to fall in love with her.

"Alright...... so.... I just..... attack you?" She hesitantly looked at me. I nodded.

Feather frowned, but had a mischievous look in her eye.

"I thought this training was going to be difficult" She mocked playfully.

Oh...

How cute.

She's getting cocky.

All of a sudden, she charged at me, raising her cutlass. Just as she swung the blade towards me, I blocked it with her silver sword.

With the cutlass facing away from me, I bashed my shoulder into her. She staggered backwards.

Feather tried to land a hit on me, but I ducked to the side. She looked at me, confusion spinning around her head.

I slashed at her with my sword, causing a squeal of pain from her. Alarmed, I look down at the edge of my blade to see blood.....

My eyes widened in shock as Feather looked at me, her eyebrows furrowed.

With a low growl, she barrels her body into mine, making me fall onto the ground. Feather looked at me, smirking in contempt as she stood above me.

She moved her eyes away from me, thinking that we're done.

"So.... what do we---" She cut herself off and screamed in alarm. I forcefully swung my foot against her shins, sending her flying forwards and onto the ground next to me.

Feather wheezed as she let go of her weapon. I quickly sprung off of the ground.

"Never..... ever derive your focus away from your enemy." I said softly.

Feather rolled onto her back, trying to catch her breath.

She had a sad look on her face, and for a moment, I felt bad for her.

I dared to let my eyes show sympathy. I was expecting a snarl, or a dirty look, or... anything negative.

But instead she smiled.

"I.... guess I still have stuff to learn... huh?"

I opened my mouth, about to reply, when she continued.

"I couldn't feel mad at you for beating me. You're helping me...."

She flashed me a smile.

"I know that you'll always look out for what's best for me.... this training... it'll come with it..."

I felt my heart soften.

This...

This is Feather.

This is what I missed most about her.

This......

It's refreshing to see her like this....

It's refreshing to know that she hasn't changed. Not one bit.

She'll stay the same amazing Feather....

And she'll be the hero...

Things will work out.

I smiled and offered her my hand.

"Shall we continue?"
