Every so often on the Mothership we share something issue-relevant that isn't found on Wattpad. On such occasions we bring out OOORAH RECOMMENDS!

Like now.

Ooorah!

Looking for more CatPunk? Well, there is some seriously great stuff out there in the multiverse. And yes, we're talking about good old down to earth Sci Fi by masters of the genre.

Eye of Cat by Roger Zelazny

Billy Singer, one of the world's most renowned hunters, needs the help of the shapeshifting and telepathic Metamorph known as Cat to protect an important political mission. The catch? Billy himself caught Cat, last survivor of his alien species for a zoo years ago. Cat agrees to help Billy under the condition that he will be allowed to hunt his former hunter when the mission is done.

In his flight from certain death, Billy returns to his Navajo roots and enters the spirit world. But can his newfound abilities help him prevail and heal himself?

Eye of Cat is one of the five books the author thought to be his best - written in 1982, this is a timeless classic and must read for science fiction geeks.

The Chanur Saga by C. J. Cherryh

Set in Cherryh's Alliance-Union Universe, the Chanur Novels are a collection of 5 stories set in the Compact, a cluster of worlds with vastly different alien species engaged in a complicated network of trade and politics.

The story follows a lone human, Tully, last survivor of an exploration ship captured by the aggressive kif. Tully escapes and finds shelter with the cat-like hani. Freighter captain Pyanfar Chanur takes him in, aware this might become a problem not only with her all-female crew but with other species of the contact who chase the alien survivor. And of course, she was right...

The Pride of Chanur

Chanur's Venture

The Kif Strike Back

Chanur's Homecoming

Chanur's Legacy

The series is space opera at its best, with the brilliant world building Cherryh stands for. The different species of the Compact, their various belief systems, languages, and ensuing communication problems give this universe a realistic touch. A classic of ethnographic science fiction!
