On April 12th, 1861 Confederate batteries under the command of General P.G.T. Beauregard opened up on Fort Sumter in Charleston Harbor. This 34 hour bombardment was a bloodless beginning to the bloodiest war in American history.

I absolutely loved coming out to Sumter. If you ever find yourself in Charleston, this is a must see!
