"What the heck was that? Is that an omen of mishap!"

Mordana demanded between her snorts of frights and trails of placating it. Aaron held her tough shoulders and looked into her obsidians, smudging her trafficked panics in his hands of concern.

Hugh kept looking through the stairs every moment to glimpse his mom. His jitters made Eir clutch the pendant of her mind's eye in an attempt to exert the trait that she inherited from her father, something she never does until it's needed. It is something she kept as a secret from everyone, even from her mates, that's why she hid it with a long string to let it reside near her abdomen beneath her robes.

When she held them in her palm careful enough to keep it unnoticed by others, she could see Galene combatting something, but her amateur state couldn't let her see anything more. Silently she recited the hymn of protection, praying to the gods of goodwill for Galene to come up safe and sound.

When the others were drowning in their renditions of scares and faiths of survival, Serephina steadied her mind and looked to see if she could infer anything. To her incredulity, nothing felt strange except for some glare that demanded keen scrutiny.

Amidst the twilight that was growing dark with every second to birth an obsidian night, she could see a flaming torch that was glaring at the corner of the pathway. With the torch that was beaming strong with every second to indicate its proximity, she could see a silhouette of a woman scurrying towards them.

Who could that be? Is she a human being, or... Her jolting questions pulled her into a maze of thoughts. Before she could conclude, the strange woman stood in front of their gate. The salty sweat stench and her weak vigour confirmed who she was and Serephina felt sorry for being sceptical.

In the meanwhile, Galene had come up and her proficient smile was back on her lips, confiding them that things were within their realm. A sigh of relief crept upon everyone's tensed face.

"Mrs Galene, I guess someone needs our help." Serephina's attention made her run towards her. She glanced at a woman walking as fast and stable as she could towards them with her fire torch swerving in the hustling breezes.

With every step she neared, anyone could figure out her dismay and anxiety from her quivering steps and sweating pale skin. Seeing Galene, a surge of sigh coated her face. She cried, "My daughter is hurt, she is bleeding. I need help, Mrs Galene."

Hearing her news, Aaron and Hugh moved towards the overstuffed room and pulled out a briefcase and some bundles of cloth without any instructions.

Girls, don't panic. Get ready to face the problem. Come along with me, Galene reasoned them through their mind. She hurried towards the woman who had a thudding fear etched in her brown almond eyes and calmed her with all her might.

"Did she get injured due to the regional quake, Mrs Kayte?" Galene enquired her with a guilt pricked glance. The girls were following her and the boys latched the mansion in disguise cottage. The woman quickly nodded and held Galene's palm with a fear struck face.

'Regional quake? What does that mean? Don't calamity often occur covering a massive portion of the land?' Mordana tried to reason it while Galene answered, 'You still have to know this Aramaur a lot well. This place isn't usual. For now, concentrate on what's ahead of us. Save the rest for tomorrow.' With a heavy fight to lock her triggered mind, Mordana called off the provoking thoughts.

"Don't worry dear. We would rescue her. Let's be quick," Galene assured the woman who was way too lost in the hands of catastrophe. When she glanced behind Galene, her wrinkles increased on her forehead and the new faces chased some reasons to assert.

"Oh! This is a bit awkward to introduce my sister's kids. These are Serephina, Eir and their friend Mordana. They are here for this summer," Galene prevaricated it in a trained tone.

"I'm so sorry to bother the family time. Please consider my apologies," she repented gripping her palm. A moment of odd silence flashed between them.

"Glad we are here to help. Let's not delay it. Your daughter needs urgent care," Mordana consoled her. With that, they rushed ahead to Kayte's place.

They were walking faster towards the eastern muddy tar terrain. The warm and clear summer nights with humid thick winds tried to slow their pace. Keeping up the strength of the elegant, cool moon; with sacred creeds and reliance filling four chambers, they moved ahead past the herbal shrubs and dandelion filled lanes for near ten minutes of Earth's horologe, they stood in front of a very small timber hut that was too mere to call it anyone's home.

The parallel assembly of wood rescued with nooses held the dry pleated palm leaves to form the roof that was barely in place after the quake. The open spaced kitchen and the scattered utensils along with a timber shed of oxen, bulls and cows mooing in anxiety, revealed their lifestyle; hence, the redolence of milk, dung and urine that was stuffed in the air.

Taking few couples of steps, everyone flocked into the house and what they saw had seized their unflustered state. A girl in ten years was breathing rapid and shallow as she laid on the pool of blood oozing from the wood which had pierced her chest. Her delicate limbs were kept static and her chest was arched, battling to live. Her pale skin spoke of the lack of blood while her damp cold skin and tightened eyes begged for life.

"Hey Arva, can you hear me?" Galene asked as she inspected the girls state, but she couldn't respond.

"Stay outside Kayte, we will rescue her and you know well that I would keep my promise at any cost." Trusting Galene's words Kayte stood outside and kept her sobs as low as she could.

Looking around the sides, Galene spelt,

'Enshroudip tryft Ingressese.'
(Enshroud the Ingresses.)

An inky shroud of magic veiled the openings to cloak everything on her command. Ensuring that others couldn't see what they were about to do, Galene urged Hugh to get the bundled purple plain robes laid and shifted the girl to it.

Lighting the gold and purple candles of musk and lavender linearly over the verges of the cloth, she took a syringe and gently rubbed between her palms thrice. Once she stopped rubbing, the syringe was filled with a rhodonite liquid. Fitting a needle on the knob, she poked it on her chest right below her wound.

When the girl inhaled and exhale a bit better, she took a cotton pad and wiped the oozing blood and asked Hugh to get her a scalpel. When she incised her wound region a bit, she couldn't see the wooden tips, marking that it was struck a bit deep. She then asked Serephina to hold the girl's arms and signalled Mordana to catch her foot.

"Hugh hold her chest firm and Aaron get the skeever hide, ash hopper jelly and garlic potion and heat it."

Hugh gripped her chests in position. Aaron hunted within the bags for the potion and worked on it. Summoning his ionic strength he ignited some gentle embers on his fingertips.

"Eir, pull out the wood as fast and unchanged as you could. I will move her heart a bit to the left. Ok?" Galene asked.

A bit of hesitation blurred her tired mind. Yet, her palms gripped the wood and her worried face gave an assuring nod in a reflex even before she was ready.

Before they could execute it, the girl started twirling vigorously. She opened her gentle eyes that had been shifting her elegant hazels to rigorous inky ravens. Frothing saliva and blood dribbled out of her lips and nose. Her skin grew chalky while her pearly nails and hazel hairs turned murky and lifeless.

Galene placed her hands near Arva's heart only to realise that something was eroding the life out of her, consuming her soul away for its survival. She looked at Serephina and requested her to chant the decree of virtue. On hearing that, her eyes dilated in monstrosity.

"Does that mean we are fighting a spirit?" Mordana queried. The very mention of the hymn blew a rush of horror in their blood.

"This isn't just a medical emergency. Please proceed without questions. We have a life at stake here," Galene made them realise the haste.

After convening her courage from within, Serephina closed her eyes and swayed her arms in the air and started to recite the hymn,

Be it the holy living soul,
Or be it the egregious undead,
Oh! The mother of insatiable truth,
It's thee who resides within every life.
Bring us the power of your vigour,
Ordain this life with the decree of virtue,
Thy infinite truth shall sanctify her.
Oh, The ruler of every being!
Escort her innocence, keep up her life,
Truth should never cease nor succumb,
This is thy oracle, so mote it be.

With every word she uttered, her halo surrounded everyone. With every cycle of the hymn, she summoned the vigour of the divine mother, illuminating a golden aura around her.

Realising the unbearable exuberance in her, Serephina moved forward and placed her palms on Arva's heart. The moment the halo entered and infected the intruder, a howling noise deafened their ears. As the auras combatted for their power, the echoing shrieks grew up in decibels that were deadly to any life. Thankfully the cloak prevented the wave of noises from escaping to the outside world.

When everyone closed the ears and gripped their talismans to keep them sane, Serephina kept up the battle for the little girl while Galene kept her vitals stable wishing for her survival.

With every driblet of halo intruding her heart, the collision of the dread and divine let the dreaded caterwaul from excruciating pain. After the final drop of golden intruded Arva, the heinous ogre was vanquished by the serene supremacy.

The moment the commotions ceased, a thick ebonic smoke exited her heart and glared at Serephina with its burning coal eyes for a few seconds. A peaking terror consumed them yet they were getting ready to combat. It then, slowly wriggled around Serephina and looped near her face with it's back tornado trunk, trying to hallucinate her. Serephina felt her timid thumps within her head and blinked twice. She flapped her right palm near her hips, making sure not to distract the smoky spectre. Comprehending her moves, Mordana spelt within her lips,

'Prisoniche tryft ogre.'
'Prison the ogre.'

Before her electric flames could encircle its smokey tail, it evaporated into the thin air, leaving back its stares to haunt in their hearts.

Shit! It escaped, Mordana frowned at her untimely move. 'Better that it's away, focus on Arva now,' Galene oriented her.

When the formless, envious spectre skedaddled, everyone witnessed Arva's frozen skin, reclaim its warmth and vitality. Her breaths turned rhythmic and her strained eyes closed to rest. Her hairs and nails that were weak and obsidian, glinted a mortal shine. Past the sweats and fears, an ebullient smile crept over every lip.

"Oh thee mother of wellness and virtue, bless this girl with the will to combat life," Serephina recited while outlining a pentagram over Arva's heart. Then she looked at Galene for her next move.

"Serephina, move her heart to left and let the vigour hold her steady till I complete," Galene instructed as she gloved her hands and got ready for the procedures.

Assuring her affirmation to Arva, Serephina enunciated,

'Shifzit tou left.'
(Shift to the left.)

She could see streaks of amber invading Arva's young ribs and could feel her recovering heart being moved to the left.

Galene signalled Eir to pull out the wood. With every strength that was left in her, she pulled it out in a moment without changing the angle.

Galene gave a thumbs up. Aaron lent her the scalpel, tissues and cotton pad to arrest the bleeding and to remove the injured tissue. She then took some of the heated potion in a swab and painted it on her traumatised tissue and then sutured it. She placed Arva on the mattress and gave her some intravenous fluids and when she was sure that Arva was safe she gulped down whatever she held back in her gut.

"Thanks, Serephina. You did keep her steady. Mordana, can you recite the spell of protection and healing for this little Arva?" Galene asked to which she responded with a positive smile. Slowly the invoked vigors dissipated into the little girl and mixed with her blood and that relaxed her tensed nerves.

Leaving Mordana inside, the others went out and reported the girl's survival to Kayte and she squeezed Galene and thanked her between her wails.

"I have no clue how would I pay you back for this help. You have saved our little girl. Her father would be very happy to know that she is safe and good." Kayte conversed her conciliatory mind.

"No, it's not just me who made this possible. These kids did support me and did an incredible job. Keep her safe and make sure she takes the pills and syrup properly. It's the best you can do." Galene replied while lending her the medications.

Mordana silently joined them after completing her prayers. Noticing her arrival, Galene prepared everyone for the return.

When they were turning back, Eir looked at the one night to be a full moon. Before realising what she was doing her lashes latched her irises. Within her eyes, she could see numerous black whisks colliding the moon and getting into the Earth and bouncing back again. The cycle kept repeating and numerous ogres, like the one she saw moments ago, kept emerging out of nowhere and her frenzy state pushed her to open her eyes that were closed without her will.

She held her Sermons eye, which charred her palms, indicating the emission of silvery black fumes from it. Her spine shuddered that made her body shake realising the havoc that was in front of them. When her thoughts tossed her to the sky and land of eternal silence, a tangible qualm drew her attention. I'm not a proficient bearer but how could I see a Sermon intuition? Is this true or a mere illusion?

The plaguing queries clouded within that drained her of all the remaining strength. She once again looked at the moon with her keen eyes, only to realise the freed fiend watch her in disguise.

Hope this update is better!
Let me know your thoughts and guesses in the comments.

.Ø. How would Eir be able to interpret her vision? She keeps it as a secret till now and never uses it often. So what would happen when people know about her vision?

.Ø. If you were with them how would you handle the ogre?

.Ø. Finally how is the write up? This is my first paranormal scene out of my mind. Hope it's better.

Feel free to drop your suggestions and queries.
