***(Cole's POV)***

Four weeks later

Seliel groans from the couch. "Nya, tell Jay to stop shooting me down!"

"I've got this!" Nya hits a button on her game controller and launches a torpedo at Jay's vehicle.

"No, Nya, wait!" he yells.

But it's too late. His computerized jet explodes in a cloud of smoke.

I grin from my spot in the doorway. Looks like I left Seliel in good hands when I left on my mission this morning.

Jay looks at Nya, hurt written all over his face. "What was that for?!"

Nya hitches a shoulder. "Sel's a cripple, Jay. I was just trying to be nice."

Seliel scoffs. "Seriously? I am not a cripple!"

Nya rolls her eyes. "You are, and you will be for the next six weeks."

Jay pouts his bottom lip. "But – "

"Trust me, Jay," Nya pats his shoulder. "The next time you need your leg broken and reset, then are laid up for the next month and a half, then extend your healing time because you try walking on your bad leg, I will be happy to gun down your enemies on videogames." She stretches an arm over her head. "It's the first day of being un-grounded, and all I've done is play videogames. Anyone up for something that's actually fun?" She stretches over the back of the couch, moaning.

"I'll do something with you," Jay suggests. "It's been boring around the monastery since you've only been here for training the past month. I'd be happy to hang out."

She raises an eyebrow. "What did you have in mind?"

"We could go out?"

"Uh-huh. Like, as in, a date?"

"Um...well...it doesn't have to be. But you know I'd always be open for that." Jay grins sheepishly.

"You won't let me forget." She turns to Seliel. "I suppose it's only right to ask you if you want to do anything, given that the only thing on your to-do list is bossing others around."

Seliel scoffs. "I have plenty of good things to do."

"She does," I smile, coming to sit beside her. I plant a kiss on her cheek. "You're grumpy today."

"You left me with these two to keep me company! Nya's just plain a brat, and all Jay ever wants to do is talk about how she won't get back together with him."

"I'm doing better than I was," he argues, blushing furiously.

It's mostly true. Jay is doing a little better since I finally convinced him to get counseling for his depression. I think he realized his need when Nya ran away – he knew it was wrong for him to consider what Nya thought about him more important than her safety.

Unfortunately, he's been full-on Nya-crazy since the whole fiasco, and he's annoying her to death.

Nya does say that she enjoys spending time with him more now. I think it's because she hated seeing him depressed last month, and it just wore her down. Even if he is annoying nowadays, he's still better off than before.

She hasn't opened up to Kai about why she ran from him yet. She also hasn't said anything about leaving Ninjago City since the night everything went down, and I secretly wonder if she still plans on going.

But Nya's here now. I guess I'll just have to keep an eye on her and trust Kai and Skylor to do the rest.

We hear the bell ring for the gate, and Jay eagerly rises. "I bet that's the mail!" he exclaims. "I'm expecting a package. I'll be back in a few minutes." He rushes out of the TV room.

Nya eyes Seliel. "I'm hungry. I know you're in eating disorder treatment and stuff, and you have specific meal plans, but...is there anything I can get for you? I'm going to be in the kitchen, anyway."

"Just water." Sel nods to Nya, and I know she's silently thanking her.

Those two pretend not to like each other. They even have Lloyd and Kai fooled. Not me, though. Nya's had Seliel's back at school for the past month, and I'm pretty sure she'll have it at the monastery, too.

As she leaves, I move Seliel so her head can rest on my lap. "How's life since I left this morning?"

"It's one big horse plop. Online treatment's hard, I have nothing to do but schoolwork, and it's a beautiful day outside." She sighs. "Will you grab my crutches? Maybe we can sit on the deck together or something."

"Gotcha." I readjust her on the couch, then head to Wu's old room. We've moved Seliel in there since we have no idea when he'll be back. I had asked if Nya would let Seliel use her room – Nya wasn't staying here for a month, anyway – but it's not hard to imagine how that went over.

Zane passes by me in the hall. "Hello, Cole," he smiles. "I am headed to Cyrus Borg's. Would you like me to purchase anything for you while I am en route?"

Ah, yes. As soon as Seliel got better, the guys and I all insisted that Zane get his head checked. I mean, he told us he was a robot. How crazy is that?!

But then he took us to meet PIXAL's father, Cyrus Borg. Long story short, Borg demonstrated that Zane is, in fact, an android. We were all a little weirded out at first, but after realizing that he's the same old Zane, we warmed up to the idea soon. I think he's happier now than he's been in...well, forever.

"I don't need anything," I reply to him. "Thanks, though."

"It's my pleasure." He nods before continuing his journey down the hall.

I grab Sel's crutches and take them back to the TV room, then help her off the couch and onto her walking aids. It takes a little maneuvering, but eventually, she gets the hang of things and hobbles toward the door.

"Look at you!" I congratulate her.

"The only thing I'm looking at is the door, Brookstone." She reaches it and tries to wiggle her body so she can get the doorknob to work.

"Do you want help?"

"No way in heck." She finally gets the door open, then takes a huge breath of fresh air. "Thanks for the offer, Brookstone. You're not bad boyfriend material, but I think I may be too much girl for you." She sends me a smirk.

"We're two days into our relationship," I argue. "You don't know that yet."

"Call it a gut feeling. But hey, if you want someone who keeps you on your toes, you've come to the right place." She gets her crutches over the doorway and steps out into the sunlight.

Jay comes running up beside us. "Aww, yes! It's finally here!"

Sel and I exchange a look.

"What's finally here?" I ask.

"Remember when I was telling you about Nya's severe allergies?" He holds up a box. "These are a set of practice epinephrine injectors, just so everyone knows how to administer her medication! I've already set up a schedule for the team to do drills."

"Drills?" Seliel asks, barely containing a laugh. "You mean, like, we practice giving her medicine as fast as we can?"

He rolls his eyes. "Pfft, you look at me skeptically now. Trust me, this could come in handy someday!"

"Whatever you say," I shrug. "But Nya's not going to be happy."

"It'll be good for her. I don't care if she likes it or not." He runs inside, calling Nya's name.

I sigh, looking at Seliel. "He's a bit of a simp."

"A bit?" she grins. "Nya's going to throw a fit."

***Music Cue***

"Probably so. Want me to help you go sit in the yard?"

"I want to be able to do it myself."

"I don't think that's going to work out."

"Then I guess you'll just have to bring the yard to me." She shoos me with a hand. "Go have fun in the outdoors. Bring me back an earthworm or something. I am going to take a catnap here in the sun." She eases herself down onto the deck, using the railing to steady herself.

I use my powers to uproot a nearby flower and hover it over her. "Well, it's not an earthworm, but will this work?"

She raises an eyebrow. "What am I supposed to do with that?"

I pick off the stem and tuck it in her hair. "You're not supposed to do anything with it. It's a pansy."

"You're a pansy."

"You're a grump."

"You're not helping." She cracks her neck.

I sit down beside her, looping an arm around her shoulders.

She beams. "You remembered deodorant. Great job, Cole! You're not hopeless after all!"

I chuckle, pressing my forehead against hers. "I just needed the right incentive to wear it, Sel." My lips move down to capture hers.

She wraps her arms around my neck, trying to better reach my lips, trying to get another sweet taste, trying to be as close as possible, when –

"Jay!" Nya yells from inside the monastery, obviously frustrated.

Seliel giggles against my mouth. "I knew that whole epinephrine thing wouldn't go over well."

I touch my lips to each of her cheeks. "We both did. Think we should go break up their fight?"

"No," she says breathlessly.

"Jay really could get himself into trouble, you know. Nya can be fierce when guys are overprotective of – "

Seliel gets tired of me talking and finds my mouth again, and I can't help a smile.

Jay will be fine, I'm sure.
