Sans hated his birthday, he never celebrated it when he started raising the pups. So when Grillby came over... "nope." Sans said before Grillby could say anything. Grillby deadpanned. "I was merely going to ask if you wanted me to take the pups for the day, the bar is closed for the inpending blizzard so it would be an opportunity for you to, say... get some rest? Say goodbye? Just take some time to yourself?" All of the above sounded tempting to the Skeleton. Sans needed time for all of that and more. "ya sure?" Grillby nodded with certainty. "You need this, Sans. Let me take them for the day, you can come pick them up in the evening and join us for dinner before you bring them home." Sans sighed and stepped aside to let Grillby in. "alright kiddos, chop chop! you're going with grandpa grillby today!" Artemis and Orion jumped off to get ready for Grillby's while Sirius tumbled off and scrambled after his siblings. Grillby laughed. "They enjoy my establishment as much as you do!"
"They enjoy it as much as their parents did.." Grillby nudged Sans. "You are their parent." He reminded Sans.

("Doctor Alphys?") They pup trio instantly became confused as to why the cold-blooded monster was here rather than her lab. They've never actually seen her outside the lab. "Happy 34th Birthday, Sans? It's dad's birthday?!" Orion gawked. "I knew we would figure it out eventually! We need to do something, he's only done the awsomest things for our birthdays!" Sirius growled determinedly. ("What should we do though?") Artemis asked. "I am glad you all feel that way, I was hoping you would assist me with the cake while the good doctor finishes decorating the front here." The pups looked at each other excitedly before following Grillby to the back. "This is a three layer, vanilla angel cake. Completely dog friendly. I want you to decorate it while I finish the food and drinks for his party." The three looked at one another. "It needs lots of red!"
"And sprinkles!"
("I wanna do the words!") Grillby laughed at their enthusiasm as he sat them down and gave them the frosting and icing. And plenty of sprinkles. "Try not to eat it all on your father now." Grillby said in amusement as he went to the kitchen.

Sans was far from happy at first. The banner was a blatant reminder that he was another year older, that he'd managed another year without him, but seeing them smiling so widely as they ran at him, Sans forgot about Papyrus. He didn't think he'd ever seen them so excited. "HAAAAAAAPPPPPPYYYYY BIRTHDAY!" Orion sprang up into his arms, a great jump really. The other two tackled Sans to the floor, talking over one another about how they knew adults had a birthday too, a lie Sans had told them years ago so they would stop asking. Then he heard something about cake? "what?" Artemis nodded. ("We made you the greatest cake ever! Come on, you gotta see it!") Then he was being push/pulled up (pushed by Sirius, pulled by Orion and Artemis) and dragged across the party zone. "We worked extra hard on this to make up for the lots of birthdays we missed!" Orion was saying as Artemis and Sirius ran passed him to jazz hands at a red doused vanilla cake with a crap ton of sprinkles everywhere on it. Sans could hardly make out the 'Happy B-Day Dad!!!' In childish handwriting. On the side was four smiling globs of white. Sans felt like crying. "i love it guys, thank you.."
