Adam races outside, his blade soon connecting with Julie's sword. Their eyes lock, his hazel burning into her mix of blue and green.

"What are you doing here?" he demands, disarming her and pinning her against a wall in three seconds without hesitation, his sword lingering at her throat. It was surprisingly easy, which caused suspicions to rise in his mind. She looks briefly at her weapon, but doesn't attempt to retrieve it.

"I heard that Ann was being kept here. I see now that she's being returned," Julie replies, looking straight into Adam's eyes.

"Was Herobrine even a little bit nervous that she was gone?" the angel asks. Julie hesitates.

"We had a roll call and Ann and Khali were missing. So I figured that you scumbags had captured them. Khali came back, but Ann never did," she says finally.

"Ann was close to death when I saved her because of your master. Why would she want to go back?" Adam blurts. Julie looks surprised, but the look quickly disappears from her face.

"So you were the one that snagged her from the throne room! I guessed Mitch."

"It's not that big of a deal. She's going back now anyways and so should you," the angel snarls, pressing her into the wall harder. Julie scowls at him but doesn't struggle.

"It is a big deal. You saved the exact thing that you were supposed to kill. I want to know why."

"I feel like if I tell you, my siblings could be put in danger," Adam growls. Julie sighs deeply, crossing her arms.

"I'm so over this. When we were first sent out to kill you, I thought it would be fun. Now I'm realizing that it isn't."

The boy's eyes widen. Hearing this from Julie, one of the most ruthless demons in the flock, shocks him.

"I think we're less different than you think," Adam says simply. She looks confused, and Adam finds it kind of... cute. The genuine emotion makes everything she's been through melt away, and in the end, she's just a girl.

"What do you mean, Adam?"

"I don't want to fight this war anymore," the angel replies. He puts his sword in its sheathe while keeping one hand on the girl, and Julie looks down at her feet.

"I..." she falters. "I know. But I don't think we have a choice. Notch and Herobrine are at each other's throats, and let's face it. We're enemies. If I go soft, it's not just me that gets put in danger. I have family to look out for too."

Adam nods. He knows deep down that it's true, but he doesn't want to accept that they're enemies.

"I think we could've been friends, Julie, if it weren't for our species," he says. She sighs and bites her lip.

"I need to go. I'll see you later."

She pushes Adam away and takes off, grabbing her sword as she goes. Adam watches her go, feeling more sad than he has in a long time.
