Chapter 1: My first day...

I woke up to the sound of my phone's alarm blaring a generic tune that frustrated me to the point of wanting to put it inside a blender. Yawning like a bear fresh out of hibernation, I grabbed the phone as quickly as my groggy hands could manage and muted the annoying beat.

Today's the day I would go study at True Cross Academy, this super elite and expensive school that somehow managed to notice me out of all the future doctors and firefighters around. To say I was exited was a complete overstatement. It really didn't matter to me since it would probably be just like my old school, no matter how much money it boasted about. Teachers no longer taught for the sake of the students, they did it to receive pay and retire. Students no longer went to school for learning, they did it to pass the grade... and 95% of students went because they had nothing better to do, just like me.

"Honey! Get up! School starts today!" My aunt yelled from downstairs.

Yes, I live with my aunt. Where's my mom, you may ask? She was a victim of the blue night along with my father.

Right after giving birth to me she was taken hostage by the blue flames lighting through her body. My dad tried to save her... that didn't turn out well.

Fortunately my 15 year old aunt was left intact. Maybe Satan sensed how big of an airhead she was.

Although I really can't say much, since she's done a great job at raising me since then. I practically owe all I am to her.

"Are you done?" I heard her ask from behind the door.

"Almost," I answered as I stretched, hearing all my joints pop before getting out of bed. I entered the bathroom and did my morning routine. Grabbing my school uniform which consisted of a pink skirt and a white, long sleeved shirt, I threw it on and exited the bathroom.

I combed my hair and let it hang loose as I grabbed my phone and the bag with my belongings and headed to the kitchen where aunt Claire was finishing the last touches of my plate.

"Thanks." I smiled lazily as I chomped down on it, earning a giggle from her.

"Now listen sweetie. This is a new school, new experiences, new friends, new everything. I get that you are scared right now but it will all blow off soon," she smiled.

"I'm not scared." I globered with mouth full.

"Remember to be safe and make the right decisions honey. If you need me you can call at any time, okay?"

"Yeah..."

"Here," she smiled handing me a small bag. I opened it and took out the contents. My eyes widened as I realized what they were.

"Condoms? And Birth Control pills?"

"You can never be too safe," She winked as we heard a horn from outside. I quickly got up from the table and went to the sink to clean my plate, turning around as Claire zipped up my bag and handed it to me. I walked to the door with her following close behind. Before I had the chance to step outside she pulled me into a big hug whispering her goodbyes as I did the same.

"Call me when you get there, okay?" she smiled and I nodded.

We stepped outside where a big limo was waiting. My eyes widened at the sight of it. I had been offered a scolarship that included a ride from my house to the school, but I certainly did not expect them to pick me up in a limo. I turned to aunt Claire and noticed a few tears rolling down her face.

"I'll be fine. It's not like I'm going to join the army," I smiled. She nodded, her lips pulled into a thin line before she gave me one last hug and gave me a small push towards the car.

I turned my head waved goodbye while I grinned at her, opening the car door and stepping inside.

"Good morning." I was greeted as I closed the door.

I turned to where the voice was coming from, finding that in front of me stood a purple haired man smirking.

"Good morning," I answered politely.

"My name is Mephisto Pheles. I am the director of True Cross Academy."

"Nice to meet you. I'm Emi," I responded.

"Are you ready for the first day of school?" He asked and I shrugged.

I was never much of a conversationalist, prefering just to smile and nod instead of actually speaking.

"Your recommendation letter said you liked art. Do you want to talk about that?" He asked with a curious smile.

Dang. He hit me right where I couldn't hold back.

"I love to dance," I answered almost immediately.

"Then you must dance for us some day. It would be fun," he smirked and I shrugged again, this time a small smile on my face.

The rest of the ride was silent. I concentrated on looking out the window and counting the minutes before my eyes managed to catch a glimpse of True Cross Academy at the distance. My gut lurched as the limo entered through the huge gates leading to the even bigger school.

"Here's all the information you'll need. Classes, dorm room, school map and the key for the cram school," he said winking at me before getting out of the limo. I sighed, taking a deep breath before opening the door and stepping out of the car. Strangely enough Mr. Pheles was nowhere in sight. I looked around confused but gave up on finding him after noticing how many people crowded the area and how impossible it was going to be to see him. Instead I opened the school map.

"Lets see. The dorm rooms are supposed to be..." I looked to my left and there was a big building. Assuming those were the dorms I headed inside.

There were a few people inside the building, all girls. I started searching for my dorm room, which I finally found after about fifteen minutes of walking through hallways and stairs.

"Number 201," I whispered to myself as I opened the door.

There were three empty beds inside the fairly big room. I walked to the farthest bed from the door and put my stuff on top of it, taking my iPod dock out of the bag. I set it on the bedside table and connected it to my iPod. After a long morning this was all I needed to do; dance.

I scrolled through my playlist until I found the song I wanted to dance, clicking on it. I walked to the center of the room and did a brief stretching before the song 'someone like you' from Adele started playing.

As the song begun I felt my heart and mind drift off with the lyrics flying around the room.

I heard that you're settled down
That you found a girl and you're married now.
I heard that your dreams came true.
Guess she gave you things I didn't give to you.

I spun around the room, walking slowly as I got used to the space.

Old friend, why are you so shy?
Ain't like you to hold back or hide from the light.

I slowly raised my leg in front of me making a perfect split

I hate to turn up out of the blue uninvited
But I couldn't stay away, I couldn't fight it.
I had hoped you'd see my face and that you'd be reminded
That for me it isn't over.

I shifted my hip so the leg ended behind me as my palms went down to the floor

Never mind, I'll find someone like you
I wish nothing but the best for you too
Don't forget me, I beg
I remember you said,
"Sometimes it lasts in love but sometimes it hurts instead,
Sometimes it lasts in love but sometimes it hurts instead"

I dropped my body rolling down on the floor. I smiled as I saw a small goblin emerge from the floor followed by a few coal tars.

You know how the time flies
Only yesterday was the time of our lives
We were born and raised
In a summer haze
Bound by the surprise of our glory days

I opened my legs in a side split as the goblin jumped over me. Rising in a bridge position more coal tars appeared from under me, tickling my back as they flew around the room.

I hate to turn up out of the blue uninvited
But I couldn't stay away, I couldn't fight it.
I'd hoped you'd see my face and that you'd be reminded
That for me it isn't over.

I felt my body being lifted off the ground. Coal tars had gathered under my feet making me float. I spun around in the air and jumped up almost touching the ceiling, the coal tars dispersing around the room.

Never mind, I'll find someone like you
I wish nothing but the best for you too
Don't forget me, I beg
I remember you said,
"Sometimes it lasts in love but sometimes it hurts instead."

I landed with my back on a bed of goblins as the song finished. I stayed there for a while catching my breath with my eyes closed, a smile on my face.

One by one all the demons started disappearing around me. I opened my eyes to se the last goblin wave at me before disappearing and a sudden emptiness took over the room.

The door swung open revealing a girl with long purple hair tied up in pig tails. She looked at me, confusion clear on her face before setting her things on one of the beds.

"You skipped the opening ceremony," she said.

I just stared at her, trying to find the right words to say while getting up from the floor.

"Well? Aren't you going to say something?" She raised an eyebrow and I just stared, a nervous expression on my face.

Just talk to her, Emi. You can do this!

No matter how many cheers I chanted in my head, I couldn't bring myself to speak. I wasn't trying to be rude or anything, I'm just not good at talking to new people.

"Great. I'm stuck with a mute," she said before turning and heading out the door.

I stared for a moment, scolding myself for losing a chance to indroduce myself, but I didn't take it too hard. We were roommates after all. We had time for intros later. Walking over to my iPod dock and disconnecting it, I took it and my cell phone before walking out of the room.
