JOHN WINCHESTER LOVED HIS WIFE, THERE WAS NO DOUBT ABOUT THAT. But when she died in the fire and he had to raise their sons alone, he became lonely. So lonely, that a few short years after her untimely death, he found solace in the arms of another woman, this one a single mother named Marie Cameron. Perhaps it was her name and how familiar it sounded to his heart, or perhaps it was the way she smiled at him and took his breath away, but she came into his life and saved him from the darkness.

Not long after meeting the alluring and mysterious John Winchester, Marie found herself pregnant with his child. A son, who they named in honor of John's late father, Henry Winchester. But despite having a child together, and no matter how much they seemed to care about for one another, things would never work out between them. Marie wanted a life with John that he could never give her, and she had to accept that he would never settle down and have a family with her. But they came to an agreement, at least, for Henry's sake, and this was that John would always visit their son.

Even though she later married her ex-boyfriend, the man who she had a daughter with, the handsome and smart software designer Alan Russell whom she did love with all her heart, Marie never forgot about John Winchester. She was someone that believed in the idea of soulmates and she knew that John was the one that got away. The one she could never have but be tortured with memories of until the day she perished. But she loved Alan, and she loved that her husband loved Henry like he was his own son, so she tried to not think about John and the way she felt when she was in her arms.

When Kaylie was twelve and Henry was ten, it was her husband that suggested they move out of their home. That they should have a fresh start in a new state, at a new school and a new job. Marie loved the idea. The woman hoped that by moving to a new state, she would be able to permanently bury the memories of John deep inside her heart where they wouldn't be able to reach the surface whenever she would go somewhere that they used to go together.

One of the new additions to their new house was an antique mirror that was, unbeknownst to them all, called The Lasser Glass, and it had a . . . particular history. They placed the mirror within Alan's home office, where it hung near his desk and house planet Marie bought at the store. Little did they know that the mirror carried demons and brought to anyone that owned it.

In only two weeks time, the mirror began to seduce the family. It made them see things that weren't supposed to exist. Things that people would never think were real. Things that belonged in a horror movie of some kind. And at the end of that second week, the family fell, blood was spilled, and young Henry Winchester was forced to do something that he never wanted to do. Something that would haunt him until the day he perished. Something that he couldn't get out of his dreams at night. Something that changed him forever.

After the tragic events involving the mirror at the Russell home, the siblings were separated. Kaylie was placed in the foster system, where she began to obsess over what happened to her family and tried to prove that the mirror was responsible for everything. Meanwhile, Henry was taken to St. Adkins Mental Hospital where he remained for the following eleven years of his life. The doctors wanted to help the boy come to terms with the truth of what happened to his family, which his subconscious seemed to bury deep down as a way to cope with the trauma he faced.

Henry eventually came to terms with what happened that last night at 2570 Hawthorne Way. He knew that it was impossible for the mirror to be haunted and for all the people that he saw with the glowing eyes and decomposing flesh weren't real and just a figment of his imagination. A side effect of the mental illness that ran in his family and drove his mother insane before her untimely demise. Because how could it be real? Cursed mirrors that kill people and ghosts only exist in horror movies. And his life, as tragic as it was, was no horror movie.

He now knew that his step-dad was a cheater and that he murdered their mother because he was a horrible man with anger issues. He knew that the only reason why he had to pull the trigger of the pistol that night is because Alan Russell would have killed them next. Henry did what he did to save himself and his sister from the same fate as their mother, and he paid for it with more than half his life spent in a mental hospital, surrounded by doctors and swallowing pills on a daily basis.

It was on his twenty-first birthday that Henry Winchester was free for the first time in eleven years. He had been cleared by his doctors and the court and discharged from the hospital. He was even able to reunite with his sister, who wanted to help him get back on his feet with a job and studio apartment. He thought things were going to be normal for once in his life, until Kaylie told him something that put his mental health in jeopardy.

Apparently, Kaylie has been obsessing over that last night at 2570 Hawthorne Way for the past eleven years. She has done so much research and even found the mirror that supposedly killed their parents, and now she wants to destroy it because of a promise they made when they were kids on the night that they were separated and two body bags were wheeled out of the house that was supposed to be a fresh start for the family.

And so, Henry did something he never thought he would ever do, and he followed Kaylie back to that fucking house.

Being back there was difficult for him to put into words, but Henry knew that he had to face the past eventually. It was the next exit on the highway to recovery, and he was okay with that. Because all he has ever wanted was to get better. To put the past behind him and move on with his life. But when supernatural occurrences begin happening that prove the myth about the mirror to be true, Henry Winchester can't even tell what is real anymore.

The only thing that can save him from plummeting further into the darkness that he has tried so hard to climb out of for over half his life, are the two older brothers that he never even knew existed.

author's note: okay, so, this book was inspired by the psychological horror movie, oculus. i didn't think that i was going to like the movie when it first came out because the trailer was kind of meh, but then i watched it and ended up really liking it. tim russell is my baby and honestly deserved better. but anyways, i've always wanted to write a supernatural fic, and since i love horror movies, i decided to adapt the plot of the movie into a fic for the show

now, yes, henry is a winchester. he is sam and dean's only younger brother, which means that adam doesn't exist. i've got nothing against adam, i just feel like he was done dirty as a character and the writers didn't care enough about him to give him a proper storyline and only wanted him around to show that john had another kid whose childhood didn't revolve around hunting. but anyway, i've decided to take matters into my own hands by creating henry. he isn't going to be a cliché either, i've actually put a lot of time into creating his character and am very proud of his arc. i honestly can't wait for you guys to meet my pain-ridden baby 🥺
