Chapter 11
Realization

*A few hours ago*

Rosemary watched Jacob as he walked side by side, with the Demiguise's paw, or hand, or whatever it was, and Jacob cooed it back to its home. "Back you go." He said softly, with a smile.

Rosemary never had a good interaction with No-Majs, but Jacob was a good example of how they are, and it made her like them fondly.

She walked inside the shack of Newt, to see Queenie looking at the photo of Leta Lestrange. Rosemary smiled sadly, as she turned to Newt.

Newt had removed his coat, and rolled his white sleeves up. He kept on talking to Pickett. "Come on, Pick. You know I'll never give you up." He said, as Pickett seem to glare at him. "Pick, I would rather cut my hand off, than give you up, after all we've gone through. Now give me a smile."

Pickett just made a face at him, and blew a raspberry at Newt. Rosemary laughed softly, as Newt turned to see her. "That's beyond my control, Pickett." He sighed and kept him to his left shoulder and went to Newt.

"Newt." She said, with a hint of sadness tinged in her voice. He looked at her. "Hey, Rose." He said softly, as he leaned forward to touch her pale cheek.

"Newt.. Newt,.." Rosemary searched for the words to say, as Newt tucked a strand of her dark brown hair behind her ear and stared at her. "What?"

"Are you really going to leave?"

Newt stopped, but replied. "Yes."

Rosemary's breaths were shallow, and slow. She felt her rib cage rattling behind her chest, and everything hurt.

She'll miss Newt, she loves him. For all she knows, he is the one who makes her happy and makes her feel at home.

It wouldn't be the same without Newt.

Newt realized that she was crying when a tear slipped down on her cheek. "Rose.. Rosemary. Look." He tilted her chin to make her look at him. "What!" Rosemary raised her voice, hurt and anguish filled her voice.

Newt sighed. "Look, I can't stay here. It's different from the Ministry of Magic back in Great Britain. I'm sorry, Rosemary - you can't get attached." His voice was firm, and it hurt Newt to say those words to his Rosemary.

Rosemary's heartbeat almost stopped. "Newt. Newt... I can't. I can't..." She sobbed at his chest, and Newt wrapped his arms around her tiny waist.

"I know." was all he whispered. Rosemary let herself cry freely. She was broken. She was a porcelain vase, broken, and easy to shatter.

First Alex, now Newt. Rosemary wasn't ever going to find the man she loves, right? She thought.

Newt didn't let her go. "Rosemary.. Rosemary.. I love you." He confessed in her ear, as Rosemary held him tight.

"I know."

"I've seen you now, and I can't forget you. Those words speak true to us."

Rosemary nodded solemnly. "I know."

"Are you mad?" A pause.

"No."

Newt breathed a sigh. Relief, no doubt. Rosemary didn't feel the same, but she knew that he really loved her, and that it was also hard for him to forget.

Because of the love between us, Rosemary thought quietly. It was hard, and now she knew how bitterly it felt. She slowly let go of his grasp.

Newt looked at her, and all Rosemary could see was hurt. She felt her lungs seize and contort, and she couldn't breathe properly.

"Rosemary.. Rosemary.." She slapped his hand away. "STOP! JUST STOP TALKING! DON'T YOU CARE?" Rosemary shouted at Newt, her face enraged and angry. Newt suddenly looked meek and hopeless.

Rosemary then realized what she has done, and backed down. "I'm.. I'm sorry. My head.." She felt dizzy, as her head pounded loudly, and she collapsed in Newt's arms.

Newt looked at her, forlorn. "I'm sorry, my Rose." He breathed, and he placed a short kiss on her forehead, and whisked her away.

Rosemary was wide awake, she was in the Ravenclaw dormitory, and she found it hard to sleep. She gave this time to think about herself.

Yes, Rosemary liked herself. Sarcastic, blunt, snappy and quick on her feet. She thought she'll always be like that.

She heard a soft growl, and she turned to see herself in the woods. "How did I get here?" She asked herself, and when she heard a scratch, she turned.

A werewolf sprang out of the bushes, and pounced at her. Rosemary screamed, as she quickly composed herself, and reached for her wand in her pockets, only to realize that she left it. In the dorm.

She turned to see the full moon shining brightly, and the werewolf howled. Rosemary stumbled, and ran as fast as her feet can take her.

She was defenseless. This was how Rosemary was gonna die. And it wasn't even anything grand.

She could totally imagine it in her head already. Rosemary Lucetta Graves, died due to a werewolf's bite. She wondered if her father was just going to laugh in amusement.

She knew that he didn't really are about what happens to his own daughter anyways. Yeah, right.

Rosemary heard the subtle footsteps of her own...Or was it the wolf's? She whirled around to see the werewolf charging right straight to her.

Her face opened to scream, but the wolf was knocked back at the side, and it rolled to its side. Rosemary turned to see the Hufflepuff boy, his wand out.

"Newt?" She called, as he fired another spell at the werewolf, who howled, and ran off to leave them alone. Newt immediately went to Rosemary's side.

"Are you.... Okay?" He asked, his face worried. Rosemary looked up at him, her face scratched, but otherwise fine.

She nodded to his query. "Yes." She whispered weakly, as Newt sighed with relief. "Good." He said, as he helped Rosemary up, who just stared at him. "Why did you help me?"

Newt's brow twitched, but he didn't reply. Rosemary looked at Newt, with a stone cold look. "Newt Scamander. I demand an answer from you."

He slowly turned to Rosemary, who was staring at him, her eyebrows furrowed. "Because.." He swallowed a lump on his throat.

"Because..?" She waited.

"Because I feel something." He said quickly, and pointed his wand at Rosemary. "I'm sorry." He said before uttering. "Stupefy."

The spell hit Rosemary, and she hit the floor with a thud. Newt carried her from the floor, and he used his magic to Obliviate her memories, including this night. And Everything about her Hogwarts life. "I'm sorry."

•~•

Rosemary jolted from the floor, as she realized that she was in a nest filled with piece of straw. She groggily stood up and she remembered.

Newt. He was the reason why she couldn't remember anything about her Hogwarts life. No wonder he always tried to ask her, hoping that she remembers him.

But he did it for the sake of not knowing him, not knowing how he truly felt. Newt did it for her.

"Rosemary?" She turned to see Queenie looking at her. "What are you doing in a nest?" She asked with a raised brow.

Rosemary stood up at once, and brushed the straw off her pants. "No..nothing." She lied quickly, and gave her a fake beam. Queenie didn't fell for it.

"Were you.." Queenie started but stopped herself. "Never mind." She waved it off, and left Rosemary, who breathed a sigh of relief.

She ran to find Newt, to know the truth. Because she needed to know.

•~•

Despite the minutes it took, Rosemary finally found Newt talking to a Demiguise, not noticing her presence.

"Newt." He turns his back, and his eyes meets hers. They locked glances, before Newt responded. "What?"

"Tell me the truth." Rosemary said bluntly, as she grabbed his wrist. Newt knew what she meant, but he quickly hid his dumbfounded expression. "What do you mean?"

Rosemary glared. "Don't play games with me. You Obliviated my memories." Rosemary pointed out, as her brown hair flowed behind her back.

Newt tried to look surprised. "Huh? Really? I didn't!" He tried to look innocent, but Rosemary saw right through it. "Newt, please. Just tell me why you did it."

Newt turned quiet, and still didn't reply. "I won't get mad." Rosemary added quickly.

He turned to look at her hazel eyes. "From the time I saw you, even in our Hogwarts days, you were beautiful. I knew that I couldn't hit it with you, so I went for Leta, but compared to her, you are nothing alike." He told his tale.

"I was the Hufflepuff boy in the background, and one night, I heard a scream in the forests. I became worried because I knew that was your scream." Rosemary looked at home, wide eyed, as if saying How did you know?. "Don't ask. So I crept down and saw you running, with a werewolf tailing you. You still looked beautiful, even in those times of distress. It pounced at you, and I had no choice but to fight for you. I didn't want you hurt." Newt finished, as he held Rosemary's hand. "Then I admitted that I felt something, and I didn't want you to know, so I knocked you out cold, and Obliviated you. I didn't mean to Obliviate every memory, but the spell went to far. I'm.. Sorry."

Rosemary felt her face turned palely white. She felt aghast, Newt was one of the boys she despises back in Hogwarts, and...

Here he was, confessing his true feelings towards Rose. And it hurts.

Rosemary's face smiled, as tears rolled down her cheeks. She went over to hug Newt. "I'm....sorry too. For being mean to you back in Hogwarts." She apologized quietly, as they embraced.

Newt nodded, his chin propped on her shoulder. "It's okay, Rosemary. I understand." He whispered back to her, and they made up.

Then they suddenly heard a sound from a distance. It was first faint, but it became louder each time. Newt and Rosemary stood up and ran.

Frank the Thunderbird was cawing at the sky, rain pouring down heavily. Newt's eyes widened in horror.

"What is it? What is it, Newt?" Rosemary went forward to where Newt was standing. He stared at the dark skies overhead.

"Danger. He senses danger."
