Pitch Black. I'd heard that name before. He was a criminal mastermind and had eluded multiple attempts of capture by the police. He was frightening in a strange way, for he was not particularly big or muscular, yet I had heard that something about him made people afraid. Just . . . afraid.

I tried to hide my nervousness as Jack closed the v-screen and Hiccup tapped his foot impatiently to get going. "So?" asked Hiccup.

"So," replied Jack, turning to face us. "I have the coordinates. Let's go."

We headed back to the car and out of the parking structure.

Once we were back on the road, we made our way through the confusing maze of streets and pedestrians. "Turn here," said Jack, pointing to the right. I turned the corner and suddenly, we were in Time Square. I looked at Jack.

"What are we doing here?" I asked him uneasily. He narrowed his eyes and replied,

"We should be there soon." But I could hear the doubt in his voice, and, slight though it was, it made me more nervous than ever. 'Great,' I thought.

Our progress was maddeningly slow in the packed area, but, after a long while, we finally made it to the other side. Following Jack's directions, I turned the next corner onto another crowded street, then drove through the flashing lights and billboards towards the river. "I thought you said we'd be there soon," I said to Jack.

"Yeah . . hopefully," he replied. I rolled my eyes. 'Right, hopefully.'

Finally, as the sun was once again nearing the horizon, we were out of the stuffy confines of the main city and on our way to the somewhat-less-crowded docks.

As the river and the huge ships came into view, the taller buildings gave way to warehouses and there were fewer people about than before. Jack pointed towards a unusually large warehouse, and I quickly checked my mirrors for anything odd. Fortunately, there was nothing except a few small cars heading out of the area. I drove on towards the waterside and parked in a nice dark spot.

Nothing to worry about, right?

But as we left the car and headed unobtrusively toward the warehouse Jack had singled out, I couldn't suppress a foreboding that we would all regret this sooner or later.
