She never felt like she belonged
Being tossed around by people
A little wooden boat in the rough sea
She had been searching for calmer waters
Where the sun would shine down
On the sparking turquoise surface
But instead she had felt the waves
Dash her against rocks
Over and over again
Letting her planks fall apart
Leaving behind a ribbed skeleton
Of gloom and misery

He was a wayward sailor
Standing on the edge of the cliff
She didn't know what drew them both
But he threw a rope into the sea
Trapping the broken remains
Tugging it out of rough sea
Into calmer, drier lands

He didn't have a lot in hand
But he didn't abandon the ruined frame
The ropes of hope he tied around
Kept the broken pieces in place
He knew she wasn't pretty
But he knew she was his
His to preserve and
His to break

And he brought wood everyday
Mismatched pieces
That didn't quite fit in the frame
But he smiled every time
On seeing her getting built
Piece by piece, plank by plank
Emotion after emotion
And bounded with the ropes of hope

She waited quietly by the cliff
Lifeless but eager
Cause he brought life in her
The way sweat gleamed off his body
As he worked tirelessly on her
Sometimes singing songs

She watched him work on her everyday
Contented in their own little bubble

And she was painted and shining
Mismatched, out of shape but polished
And the grin on the sailor's face
Made even the seas swell with happiness

And then one day the sailor
Had to flee the comfort of homeland
And he took her to the seas
Everything was fine
In their little escapade until
The storms came again on them
Seizing them in it's monstrous grip

The sailor didn't think
She could hold against the currents
But she was pieced together
With little more than just planks
She was forged from ropes of hope
With the delicate care of an artist
The storm continued all night
But she kept him safe
As they held on to each other
Through the rough nights

The first ray of dawn brought the calm
And the sailor went to sleep
Being gently rocked by her
Bouncing on the silvery waves
There was a smile on his face
As he descended into dreams
He knew he was safe in her arms
And she knew she was safe in his
