I groan and turn over
Picking up my phone
Fumbling with my fingers
To stop the alarm tone

My fingers move automatically
Finding the chatting space
And look at the black screen
Reflecting my sleepy face

"You were in my dreams last night"
I drop the message with a grin
Imagining your face and waiting
For the message to be seen

You drop two emojis before asking
"What were we doing again?"
"Texting as usual," I reply back
Though wishing it was cuddling and rain

"Just the normal," you text back
"Yep, our normal," I smile a little
Searching an emoji from my stack

But deep down I know
Why I was about you dreaming
Because I had imagined your embrace
When thoughts in my head were screaming

And even across these distances
Over this virtual space we share
In dreams, in texts and someday for real
