It was a chilly night. I was with a group of friends, because the corn maze was so big, that you could get lost by yourself. My dad turned on his flashlight, and we picked up a map.

"All right let's go!" he said. My friends, Brian, Oscar, Madison, my Dad and I entered the corn maze. They went in the front, while my Dad and I stayed near the back of the group. He went behind me, shining his flashlight. We came to the first fork in the maze.

"Which way should we go, left or right?" said Oscar.

"Right is always right, so let's go left," Brian said. We all followed Oscar, who was at the front of the group. He started running, and so did everyone else, until we stopped.

"Wait a minute, where's Oscar?" I said.

"Great, we've already lost somebody," Madison said. We looked around for a second and then Oscar jumped out, and Brian screamed.

"Oscar, are you serious?! It's late at night, and there's nobody else in this corn maze! You are the reason I don't sleep at night!"

"Sorry," Oscar said, "it was funny though." We all laughed.

"Just don't do that again!" We walked a little bit more, and we came to another fork.

"Where should we go this time," Madison said. My dad shined the flashlight on the map that I was carrying.

"The end is in this general direction," I said, "so we should head right." We turned right and kept on going. My shoes crunched on the stalks of corn that had fallen down. I looked behind me, and it was too dark to see my Dad, but I could see his flashlight, following right behind me.

A slight breeze blew, rustling the corn. I was thinking about what a peaceful night it was, when Madison suddenly screamed.

"Oscar!" I said, "What was that for?" Madison shined her flashlight on Oscar.

"It wasn't me," he said.

"No it wasn't him," Madison said, trembling, "it was that." I looked down, and I screamed too. Lying right there was a dead body. It looked like someone had slashed their throat.

"We need to get out of here." I said. I was just about to turn around when I heard a rustle in the corn and a loud thump.

"What was that?" Brian said.

"I don't know," Oscar replied, "I really don't like it here." We quickly turned around and headed back in the direction that we came from. We started running. My Dad's footsteps sounded heavier than they normally did, but he was probably tired. I couldn't blame him. I looked back and saw his flashlight, but it was too dark to actually see him. That gave me a worse feeling.

"Hey Madison, can I borrow your flashlight," I whispered as we were running.

"Sure," she said, and handed me her flashlight. I turned it back, and I felt a wave of sheer panic wash over me. It wasn't my Dad. It was some guy holding a knife, chasing after us.

"RUN!" I yelled, and we bolted out. I could see the entrance coming closer and closer when I felt the sharp blade of the knife against my neck.

* * *

I woke up to the soft sound of crickets. I opened my eyes, and peered around. I saw the moon in the night sky and corn stalks. I immediately turned to my left and saw the figure of my Dad lying right next to me and the shape of a figure holding a knife standing right above us.

Happy Halloween everyone!
