SCENE: EXTERIOR. MURMUR OF ANXIOUS VOICES

INITIATE WERTHER: (SPEAKING RAPIDLY) And then I found this holotape right in the middle! I'm sure it's got to be a clue, really I am!

HERBERT “DARING” DASHWOOD: Well, let's hear the recording, then, young man.

JOANNA AUDAX: I give the orders around here, not you, Dashwood. Play it, Initiate.

SOUND EFFECT: SHORT BURST OF STATIC

HOLOTAPE: (VOICE IS MASCULINE, CLEAR) Child, age 10. Brown eyes. Brown hair. Last seen wearing striped t-shirt, jeans, dirty winter coat, red cap. Unarmed. To be brought in unharmed. Any accompanying mutants to be shot on sight.

SOUND EFFECT: SHORT BURST OF STATIC

ARGYLE: Mutants? They mean super mutants? Or ghouls?

JOANNA AUDAX: (VERY MATTER-OF-FACT) Who knows? The Enclave hates both. But we've got our evidence – that shiny little holotape has 'Enclave' all over it. Initiate Werther, call in to the Citadel, we're going to need backup.

HERBERT “DARING” DASHWOOD: (THOUGHTFUL) There's something strange, here.

ARGYLE: What do you mean, boss?

HERBERT “DARING” DASHWOOD: Joanna is right about the Enclave hating mutants, but did that child look like a mutant to you?

ARGYLE: Nope. No way, boss. He looked about as human as you do.

JOANNA AUDAX: So what?

HERBERT “DARING” DASHWOOD: The Enclave has nothing against normal humans, and furthermore, they are very attached to concepts such as 'law' and 'order'.

INITIATE WERTHER: (THOUGHTFUL) They sure talk about those things a lot on that radio station they have.

JOANNA AUDAX: (SHARPLY) You aren't supposed to be listening to that, Initiate.

INITATE WERTHER: (CONTRITE) No, ma'am.

JOANNA AUDAX: At any rate, I still don't see your point, Dashwood.

HERBERT “DARING” DASHWOOD: My point is, that this behaviour is very out of character for the Enclave. I can't imagine a reason why they would kidnap a normal child.

ARGYLE: So, logically, either that wasn't a normal child, or -

INITIATE WERTHER: Or?

HERBERT “DARING” DASHWOOD: Or that wasn't the Enclave!
