"You were in my dream. I mean you were really in my dream like with me. How did we get... That's not possible. Is it?" she said, turning on a lamp next to the bed. She stared at the rock, with her mouth gaping open.

"Don't look at me for answers. I have nooo idea how we got these things out of my, I mean your, our dream. Wow, this is so weird, I'm even confused how to explain it. And I was there, or at least, I think I was."

She unfolded her legs and climbed off the bed, then put her hand on my head. "I wish I had a unicorn," she said dramatically. Nothing happened.

"What on earth, are you doing?" I inquired, tossing her hand off my head feeling a little like the freakish unicorn she had asked for.

"Shhhhh, maybe it has to be something real." Then she put her hand back on my head. "I wish I had a puppy," she said with even more dramatic flare than she had for her first request. Still nothing. "Ah, too bad it was worth a try." She smirked and sat back down on the bed.

"Ha, ha," I replied. "It's not all bad, though. At least, I know what's on your Christmas list. So, how about telling me what makes this rock so special?" I admired the rainbow colors it reflected around the room.

"Well, firstly, it's practically impossible to get one. That lake is on a plateau. If you're planning on making a trek there, you risk being fried alive by the acid rain that pours down on the mountain trails that lead to it, or frozen solid by the extreme flash freezes that spontaneously happen at that altitude. By some miracle if you survive all of that, the lake isn't usually in liquid form, so you wouldn't be able to swim out and pry a piece free."

"Why would anyone bother risking life and limb for a piece of rock? Even if it is a lovely rainbow colored one."

"There's supposedly a lot more to that rock than just it's pretty exterior. There's an ancient legend that claims the wearer of Dekarta stone has the power to draw on the circle beyond their ability. Whatever that means. The few people who have one, don't exactly go around advertising what it can do. But I have every intention to find out. You know, you can find a similar crystal here on Earth, called the Titanium Aura Quartz. But this one," she said holding it up to the light, "has soaked up all the magical properties of the Dekarta Lake."

"Okay..." I said sounding like she might have now officially lost it. Power to draw on the circle, whatever that means, I tossed the notion aside. "It still doesn't explain the unicorn wish you made, though."

"Well, I've pretty much wanted a piece of this crystal for as long as I remember. Then you come along, and here I am holding a chunk of it. I figured since you're granting wishes."

"Ugh, I'm not granting wishes or at least not intentionally anyway. So stop looking at me like I'm an all magic genie. I have no idea how any of this happened, but you'll be the first to know if I figure it out."

"Deal, because if you do, I definitely want to be there to witness that." She smiled and stood up. "Come on. We might as well get ready for school. We still have time to stop at the Stompin' Grounds on the way if we hurry."

Fifteen minutes later we were downstairs when my Gran stopped us before we made a hasty exit toward our caffeine rush. "Wren, are you and Sage off for the day then?" she asked when we were only a few feet from the door.

"Yup. We were going to hit the Stompin' Grounds for breakfast before school."

"What about lunch, don't you both need to take something with you?" she asked sounding concerned.

"Oh, I already have plans for lunch today."

"Yeah, Wren has a hot lunch date with Kellan," Sage said raising her voice and lengthening out how she said Kellan's name. "Me? I'll probably eat at the Galaxy Diner, so I'm good. But I would take a jar of your Arnica cream. You know, that is, if it wouldn't be too much trouble. That stuff is amazing." She glanced over at my cheek. "I'll pay you for it of course. It'd be a great addition to the supplies in my medical bag I use for the injuries that happen at our team games."

Gran smiled, "It does work like magic, doesn't it? I tell you what, I have a new batch to make later today for a client. I'll give you a jar once it's done, on one condition."

"Sure, what's that?"

"You just don't go around telling everyone where you got it. I can barely keep up with the orders I have, and don't need to add a whole pile more stress with any new customer demands."

"Fair enough, consider it a deal." She adjusted the bag on her shoulder. "Your secret is safe with me."

"Oh, Wren, before you leave, if you're returning Kellan's jacket," she said looking at the coat I was holding in my arms, "you might as well take his gray shirt too. Assuming, that it is Kellan's." She grinned, then turned back to the counter where she resumed stirring a bowl of something she had been making when we'd entered the room. Busted. I stood there stuck in place, of course, she picked up on the shirt last night. This was my Gran we were talking about.

Sage immediately burst out laughing. "I like you, Rosemary. You don't miss a thing and aren't afraid to call a spade a spade. Not to mention you have a pretty rocking talent with the herbs and flowers." She turned to me and whispered. "I wouldn't try and come up with some lame excuse if I were you. Your Gran has a third eye for these things, pretty sure she'll see right through it."

"Right, thanks for the reminder," I whispered back. "Yes, it's Kellan's shirt." I let out a long sigh and ran my hand down my face. "I totally forgot about it too. I'll grab it from my room." I said in a quiet voice. Then I headed upstairs where I picked it up off the floor. I was just about to leave my room when I saw the piece of quartz glittering in the sunlight. I grabbed it off the dresser and put it in my pocket hoping to find a chain later today, so I could attach it somehow and be able to wear it. I thought we might be able to find something after school when Sage and I went shopping.

When I got back to the kitchen, Sage was standing next to the door with a bag of cookies in her hand and was polishing off the remainder of an oatmeal one. "All right, let's go." I hoisted my bag over my shoulder holding Kellan's stuff in my arms, and then followed her out the door to the promise of coffee.

Within moments of entering the café, I heard him take over my thoughts with his voice echoing inside my head.

Hey, good morning beautiful. I see you came bearing gifts. I was hoping you'd just keep wearing my jacket for everyone to see, but I guess that didn't work out all that well last night. Did it?

I looked around the room to see where he might be. It took about one second to find him. Kellan's cover boy looks could grab anyone's attention. He was helping Ethan behind the counter by make coffees for a few people standing line for their morning fix. His blue eyes flashed when I picked him out, and then he shot off a million dollar smile my way, making me feel light and warm. His hair was a little disheveled and hung a bit in his eyes. He had on a white t-shirt with a blue plaid button-up that was thrown over the top, left open with both cuffs rolled up. I could feel myself tremble as I took him in.

"No, I guess it didn't," I said when we got to the counter.

"Uh-huh, why do I feel like I've missed out on a part of the conversation going on here." Sage looked at Kellan and then at me. "Hey, Kellan. Could I get a mocha and rise and shine muffin? Wren, what do you want?"

"Na. I think we're good," he said picking up the bill handing it back to her.

"What? Huh?" she said looking over to me. "Thanks, Kellan," she smiled.

"No problem." Ethan placed our coffees on the counter in front of us, then went back to making coffees for the next person in line. After grabbing two muffins and putting them bags, Kellan placed them both on the counter next to the coffees.

"Hey, is there somewhere I can hang this up for you?" I raised the jacket and shirt I was holding.

"Yeah, that'd be great. Just behind the counter next to the side entrance, there are some hooks for staff to hang their stuff. Can you put it there?"

"Sure." I smiled and plucked a piece of lint from the fleece of his jacket. "Hey, back in a sec," I said to Sage. Then followed his directions, down the hall where I found some stuff that looked like it belonged to other staff members hanging on the wall. I hung up his coat and shirt on separate hooks beside each other. When I turned around to leave, I plastered myself onto his muscular frame not knowing was right behind me the whole time. Not missing a beat, he wrapped his arms around me and pulled me into him. His breezy scent washed over me, making me dizzy with the thought of him being so close to me.

"Whew, I was wondering how I was going to get you alone." He adjusted his hands behind me. "I haven't been able to shake my head free of your spontaneous arrival at my place last night. Your attire was perfect." He smirked and brushed my hair out of my eyes.

"Hey, good morning Jessica." I heard Sage say in a loud voice in the background.

"Oh, good morning. I suppose that Wren girl is here too," Jessica said sounding irritated. "Ethan, where's Kellan?" she snapped. When he didn't answer right away, I could hear the click of her pumps strike against the wood floor. It sounded like she was walking around the counter towards the entrance in the back area. I shoved my hands in my pockets, thinking how much I didn't want to deal with Jessica when I heard Kellan mumble something about how much he wished he didn't have to deal with her as well. He still had his arms wrapped around me when she came waltzing through the hallway like she owned the cafe. We both stood there motionless without anywhere to go, and just waited for her to find us standing there together. But for some reason, she walked right by us and poked her head in the kitchen, then opened the side entrance door and looked outside, then threw her arms up in the air and walked by us again up straight back up to the front of the café. "He's not back there. Ugh, he owes me an answer too. I'll just have to catch up with him at school. Ethan can I just get a Chamomile tea to go, please." Then about a minute later, we heard her say goodbye to Sage and leave through the front door.

"I don't get it? Why she didn't see us," I said looking up at Kellan.

"Hey, don't look at me. It's not like I can turn us invisible."

"Wren? Are you guys back here?" Sage asked, wondering through the back area.

She was about two paces from me when Kellan released me from his embrace.

"Ahhh!" Sage jumped backward. "Where did you two come from? You weren't there, and now. What are you two playing at? How did you do that?"

Kellan had a stunned look on his face and just shrugged. Then I pulled my hand out of my pocket and opened it up where the rainbow crystal sat in the middle of my palm.

"Holy mother of... Is that what I think it is?" he said staring at my hand.

Sage stood behind me and nodded. "Yeah, and it appears to work too." she said clapping her hands. "You better put that back in your pocket before you lose it or worse the whole world knows you have one."

"I second that," Kellan said staring at it. "That was seriously a cool trick."

"Come on Wren. We need to get to school." She tugged on my sleeve heading towards the side entrance door. "Kellan, I'm sure I'll see you in class. Later. Thanks for the coffee."

"Hey, I'm looking forward to lunch," I said with Sage dragging me by my arm outside. "I have a few more questions I think I just added to my list." I looked down the hall where Jessica had just left. "I still haven't decided which one I want you to answer first," I hollered through the closing door.

Ditto. I'll find you at lunch then. I heard him say inside my head.

We were at the back entrance of the school where a group of students was hanging out. We started climbing the steps to the school when Jaxon turned and noticed us about to go in. He broke free of the group to catch up to us. "Hey, Wren! Wait up."

Sage smiled and sipped her coffee like she'd been waiting all morning to watch this interaction. "Uh, hi?" I turned around to face him. I had no idea what to say, especially after last night's crazy dream. But with Sage as my wingman, there was no way she was leaving me hanging.

"So fire boy, I was staying at Wren's house last night and couldn't help but notice a lovely piece of artwork around her ankle. You wouldn't happen to know anything about it would you?"

The color bleached from his face, he glanced at my ankle and then back up to me. Even speechless—he was hot. He'd have to hit the gym every day for his clothes to drape over his well-sculpted form like they did.

"You have to excuse my bold friend. Sage's been dying to get the answer to that burning question all night."

"You crack me up, burning question. Very punny of you. That's good," Sage said taking another sip of her coffee.

"I had to do it. I couldn't help myself." I shrugged and gave her a half smile. I hoisted the leg of my jeans exposing my ankle. "This wouldn't happen to be your handiwork, would it?"

He just stared at the markings. "You know," he said softly. "Sage didn't also happen to tell you what it meant, did she?" He looked up at me like he hoped she hadn't gotten to that part of the story yet.

"As much as really would like to stick around, I have a feeling the two of you need to talk a few things out. You know, dates, guest lists, flowers." She turned toward the door and threw her hand in the air waving bye. "Wren just text me later, remember I want to wear green."

"Sorry, subtly isn't her strong suit."

"Yeah, I've noticed." He chuckled and shook his head. "I think her boldness is her endearing quality."

"It is, isn't it?"

"Come on," he said grabbing my hand leading me out to the parking lot. "She's right about one thing."

"What's that? That green's her best color?" I laughed trying to lighten the moment.

"Ha, ha. No, that we have a few things to sort out between us. Don't you think?"

Yes, we did.
