Kira's POV

My hand reaches up to stroke BlazeClaws' neck, feeling his warm, smooth, purple scales beneath my hand. He gives me such courage at times like this. His large clawed feet are scraping the ground in waiting for a command, but he isn't my pet. He is my best friend, companion, my everything. His head snakes down to nuzzle against my side. It's a small gesture, but it carries a lot of weight, it reassures me.

He sits, front claws hanging over the cliff face, and even like this he is as tall as three of me, even though he is not yet fully grown. Large wings draping over his wide shoulders, slightly projected out to the side, thick with solid muscle. He looks intimidating, although this is his casual stance. Dark blue eyes scan the scene before us intently, exploring the slightest details of the landscape, picking out the smallest of movements with ease.

So far, the Orcans have shipped around two tons of dragon flesh and blood to the master Okra. There is nothing we can do to stop this now, but if we work out when they send shipments, it is possible that we can prevent them from succeeding in their delivery from here on out.

One of the Orcans turns it's pointed head and beady little eyes towards us. With it's sharp eyesight it spots Blaze with ease. It screeches an alarm call and runs to The Orcan Sa - the one in charge of the Orcans gathered. "Come on Blaze, time to go" I say through the mind link.

"Yes, they are coming for us " Blaze says back. He sounds calm, strong, no traces of panic in his voice. Without hesitation I leap up the crest of his wing and onto the brown saddle placed in the middle of his broad back.

"Ready ?" He asks, turning his head to see my answer. I nod and Blaze turns around, sprinting to pick up speed. A minute later we are rising up into the air until we are high enough that I could reach up and run my hand through cloud. Within moments the Orcan Sa gives chase, bellowing out a screeching war cry so loud and high pitched it makes my ears sting.

BlazeClaws roars, feeling my pain through the link. His ears are way more sensitive than mine, so he feels double the pain.

Blaze growls furiously at the Orcans. They speed towards us on the back of their Whilderbeast(Wile-der-beast), large, grey, furry, bull like creatures with a sour attitude towards anything not related to sleep or food, so they were already pretty angry, since they were awake and having to use their ragged wings.

Their chunky, fat covered bodies strained to keep them aloft as sticky slivers of greenish white spittle drop onto the creatures roaming the lands below.Blaze takes a sharp turn and begins blowing columns of fire at the advancing Whilderbeast.

A few of the nearest ones cascade down in comets of flame, their riders wailing in anger and pain . The remaining Orcans steer their mounts well clear of Blaze, preferring to attack with short bursts of Gunkel (the foul sludge produced by Whilderbeast) and throwing knives, which Blaze deflects easily. As he smacks a Whilderbeast away with his tail another one splats him with a steaming glob of Gunkel.

Blaze cries out as it seeps through the small gaps between his scales, feeling his pain I gasp, it boils along his scales, prodding the more delicate ones curiously. I yank my bow from my back and notch an arrow, hitting the Orcan between the eyes, he dissipates in a puff of smoke as his confused Whilderbeast squeals and flies to the ground . Around twenty more of the vicious creatures shriek into view and prepare to fire." Blaze, leave it, let's just go" I say. Blaze growls in response and spins around, adding a burst of speed.

Soon we are gliding through dense foliage, preparing to land. The pain in my back has descended to a dull throb, but I know it is worse for Blaze, the link doesn't give me nearly the same depth as his pain, and I know that he wouldn't have requested to land if he could go further, he's never liked giving up . I can see that two of his scales are loose, the Gunkel having spread beneath them, separating them from his body. Tiredly Blaze lands with a heaving sigh, barely able to stand from exhaustion . He is still only young, twenty three human years ( forty six dragon years) and scarcely begun his extended life. Blazes legs wobble as he lies down sleepily.

" Don't sleep" I warn him.

" I'll try" he replies.

I can plainly see that he is in no shape to walk, let alone fly, but if I asked him to come with me he would. The gunkel exhausts him, as it contains a toxin to dragons, and if it isn't removed within twelve to sixteen hours it can be fatal or ground its victim for life.

"Stay here Blaze, I'll find the Dragonweed" I say out loud.Dragonweed is a special plant that is similar to antibiotics, but for dragons. As I head out to search, I sense Blaze tiring, his eyes fluttering, his determination to stay awake strong and I feel so, so proud of him.

It doesn't take me too long to find the stuff, maybe an hour, but by the time I get back, Blaze is asleep, curled into a protective ball with a smoking circle of put-out fire spread around him.I sigh with a laugh and get to work. First I retrieve a stone bowl from a saddlebag, then I mash the weeds until they resemble crushed cabbage, I pick up a handful and place it on Blazes throbbing scales.

Instantly the Gunkel drips off in chunks, sizzling as it hits the damp ground. Blaze purrs contentedly and blows a smoke ring into the star speckled sky. I gently nudge Blaze awake and give him the leftover Dragonweed, he eats it quickly and is soon nuzzling for more, his quick snooze seeming to have rinsed him of his exhaustion.

"Time to leave?" I ask.

"Really? I was enjoying this damp ground" he replies sarcastically. I haul myself up onto his back and clutch his crest as he takes off towards the mountain.

We soon reach our cave, just below the peak of the looming Mount Sorarian (tallest for miles if I do say so myself). Blaze is tiring again, the gunkel had already seeped below his skin and begun its job of sapping his strength when I applied the herb, so now he is weak, but he will be fine by morning, I think. Upon landing in our cave I sense a presence through the mind link. Something is creeping around our den. My violet eyes narrow as I try to see the intruder, peering through my hazel, shoulder length  hair.

"Let me see" I say to Blaze.

He nods slowly and closes his eyes. I close my own for a second and open them, but they are not mine anymore,I can see everything in thermal; purples, greens, reds, yellows and blues, but the color is slightly muted. As I move Blazes head around I see myself.

A skinny teenager with a dragon looking through her eyes, when I take control of Blazes mind he gets mine, but we can still feel ourselves and resist their control if we don't want them to have it. The presence is coming closer, feeling blindly along the bottom of the walls, maybe injured or lost.

As I know the layout of our cave off by heart I send a short burst of flame towards what I know is a torch settled in the stone wall. It lights up a little of the cave and as I light up the others a stumbling, injured, black wolf pup appears. I instantly go back to being myself and inspect the pup properly. It shies away from me and yowls fearfully, throwing itself into the furthest corners of the cave.

"Blaze tell it we won't hurt it" I say to him.

Dragons can speak to any creature using the 'universal language', only humans lack the ability to understand it, although I had tried to train myself to do so.

As Blaze knelt down and stretched his neck forward to greet and speak to the terrified pup I examined it's possibly broken leg. I was also wondering how on Garthox it had reached this summit, it must have been carried up my a mother or father wolf. Standing up from my crouching position I could see a quickly scribbled note under an oak wood table in the centre of the room. Leaving Blaze to converse with the wolf I made my way toward it cautiously.
It said;

Dear Kira of Sorarian Mountain,
Dragon Rider, protector of all I beg you please watch over this pup, he is a strong young one and will aid you in the coming years, our land may be ruined in near months if you choose not to take him on, his name is Shadow and he is the key to saving the land.Choose wisely child, the future depends on it.

The time is near
Fire,Ice,Dark,Light,Plant, Earth and Spirit will hear
The moonbeam, catch it you'll scream
On wings of White you will set it right
But beware the call
Or the dragons will fall

Blazing claws touch the sky tonight
A blast of white to set it alight
The red of dawn will soon be gone
A blizzard of ice you will entice
The moonbeams light could save you tonight
But the leaves of fall can burn it all
