Ellery's POV

"Hafsa, how can I thank you?" I spoke feeling a sudden gratitude towards her. My arms wrapped around her tightly as I close my eyes with the sensation of happiness. I owed my life to her. She had saved the day and I knew I was so close in finally getting full custody of Mae.

"Just promise me that you both will live a happy life far away from here" Hafsa said. There was a hint of sadness in her voice. I figured, it was probably because she could never get out from the orphanage herself.

"I promise and you can visit any time" I assured her.

"Only if I could leave this place, I surely will" She sighed quietly.

"You will. I have high hopes for you. One day you will take the chance and for once live your life. This place may have turned you to a quiet zombie but the Hafsa I saw today had the guts to lie to save a friend. She laughs and jokes about the silliest things. There is so much more to you than this place, Hafsa." I comforted her but only with the truth. I stood at the orphanage, just looking all around finally feeling that this might just be one of the last days I get to stay here and wait for Mae.

And all it took was One White Lie, I scoffed at the thought.

"Ms. Lawson?" Francine had come back with some papers. Her stern look had died down after acknowledging my status. Power really influences people.

"Yes?"

"The paperwork is ready. Has your husband left?"

"Yeah something came up so he had to leave. Do you need him to be present for this?" I asked taking the papers from her. I had wanted to fill these for so long; it felt nice just holding them in my hand. The thought of Mae coming home was overwhelming.

"No, it's alright. Take them home and bring it in tomorrow. Normally we would do an extensive research but since Mr. Chambers is one of the well-respected men in the city, I would take his word for it. He has previously donated many times to the orphanage. " Francine's voice pitched high as she spoke.

"How long will the whole process take?" My eyes grew wider as I asked eagerly.

"After the paper works, comes the actual meeting with Mae and you both. We would also visit your house to check its state, you know just mandatory stuff"

"Oh . . our house? Alright . .no problem" I gulped wondering how much work we'd have to put into this to cover up one white lie. I stared at the papers and then at Francine. She smiled and left with Hafsa, and it was time for me to go. Walking out of the orphanage felt different this time, I knew I had a lot of issues at hand and those needed to be handled as soon as possible before anything else happens.

"Let's see . ." I mumbled to myself. It was no doubt that I had to contact Jordan again. I had succeeded in convincing him to stretch out this lie. But just how do we go about doing this?

Jordan's POV

After what it seems like the longest drive, the car had made its way home. I stared at the gate without stepping outside unable to fully contain myself. "Are you going to tell Gemma?" Ahmed asks the dreadful question. Of course, I wanted to tell her, every part of me did. But how could I give her false hopes when I haven't even had the chance to talk to Amanda yet. How could I tell her that I am helping a random woman get custody of her? I could bring such a delicate subject upon Gemma and make her accept the fact that it would take a while to get Amanda back home.

"No, not yet. I need this to stay a secret. Nobody should know about this okay" I replied.

"Great, trust the only guy who can't keep a secret" Ahmed muttered under his breath.

"Seriously, why are you my bodyguard if you can't keep a secret?"

"You promoted me to a bodyguard from your chauffeur, remember?" Ahmed smirked. "But you can trust me, you know that, right?"

Ahmed has been the only person who's ever come close to being a brother to me even if he knew it or not. I trust very little people in my life and promoting him to being my bodyguard was me validating my trust in him. With the situation at hand, it was only Ahmed I trusted enough to look into the mess discreetly. "I know. Which is why I need you to do a thorough background check done on Ellery Lawson and also the woman who decided to pair us up back at the orphanage, I don't know her name but she was wearing black." I say in confidence.

"Ellery Lawson and Woman in Black? I can find out about Ms.Lawson within the night but the woman in black sounds scary, I guess I'll take a look when I go back to get my car from The Orphanage."

"Alright then. I will look into Amanda myself. Right now, all the answers I seek lies within Ellery Lawson"

Ellery's POV

Yes, yes, yes, yes! screamed every bone in my body. It had been an exhausting day but it turned out great. I was finally so close in sealing the deal with the devil. And by devil I meant Francine. She was the rudest bitch in that house.

Images of having Mae back flashed through my mind. I felt at peace after years of dreading that I might never recover my broken life. The broken life that I had tried to mend piece by piece is finally coming to place.

All this is being possible because of Jordan Chambers. The man I should hate. Suddenly this man is playing a huge role in my life or he at least agreed to play a huge role in our lives, mine and Mae's. I hope he holds his end of the bargain as promised so I could hold the end of mine. Whatever he wants with my father's work he can have them if he pretends to be my husband until I get Mae. I just hope he doesn't back out in the last minute. The thought terrified me.

I walked up to my neighbourhood and took a long breath to collect my thoughts. Maybe I did make a deal with the devil, and this devil's name is Jordan Chambers.

My thoughts came to a halt when I heard a crowd of people talking just a few feet away. There were cameramen and reporters outside my house. "What in the world . ." I murmur to myself. The reporters are too caught up with talking to themselves and waiting that they don't realize that I am standing near them.

"They must be living together here in this small neighbourhood so that no one would suspect it."

"I can't believe the handsome bachelor secretly married one of his former employees"

"Tomorrow's going to be an interesting day when the world knows that Mr. Chambers is married"

It didn't take much after that for me to turn around and walk very quickly to the other side of the road. HOW! Just how, did the reporters know about this? This is bad! I took my phone out and searched for Jordan's number but then I realized that I did not know even that much about this man. This man I supposedly am married to. Just how did a perfectly good day come to an end so quickly? Was it my fate or just my luck?

"I can't believe the handsome bachelor secretly married one of his former employees"

Former employee . . right! He was my CEO, I would still have his information in one of my work emails. After looking it up, one fine email led me to catch a cab and be on my way to pay Mr. Chambers a visit. So much for being discreet!

Jordan's POV

Finally getting inside the house, I maintained my jolly mood and called out "Gemma, I'm home!" I had figured she'd be excited or annoyed at me, it always depends on her mood though "Gemma?" I called out softly this time unsure she had heard me. I walked inside the living room and find her staring at the TV as if she had seen a ghost.

"Jade . .are my reading glasses broken or the TV Headlines are wrong?" She whispered under her breath. I walked closer to her and turned myself towards the television to see what all the fuss was about. If it's about Donald Trump again, I swear . . . but instead, I gulped my thoughts away as I see my picture and the headlines in bold.

JORDAN CHAMBERS AND ELLERY LAWSON TIE THE KNOT IN SECRET CEREMONY SURPRISING AND ANGERING A LOT OF FANS!
