In this part, I will list the native animals and creatures of Whyvaria, as well as which can be pets and in which Guild. Not everyone has to have a pet! I would rather if only a few had pets. However, you could add a sidenote in your form (under 'Pet(s):' ) where you can write if the animal listed serves a purpose other than pet (e.g. they are the servant of the monarch and the monarch has this animal, and it is their job to look after it).

As always, any questions or concerns, or ideas for more animals, please do comment then down below!

Whyvarian Animals and Possible Pets:

Below I will list some of Whyvaria's native animal species, but not all of them because only these can be the possible pets that dragons can have (THIS WILL PROBABLY BE UPDATED AND/OR EDITED SO CHECK BACK TO THIS). I will also note now that some of these depend on your Guild, occupation/job or status. You wouldn't be a homeless merchant and own a kirin (unless you had a black-market kirin trading system but I don't really want that-), you wouldn't really be a Sapphire and own a Phoenix, or be a rich prince and only own a spider or something. It needs to be realistic!! That includes not everyone having pets. This is just a fun aspect I though I'd add.

Whyvarian Animals:

Coedian Wildcat - (Status: the equivelant to a house cat for humans, pretty popular) large wildcats that can reach even up to 1.7 metres in height (at the shoulders), with many qualities of domestic cats (relating to their behaviour, anatomical structure and pelt possibilities), but with longer, sleeker and more muscular builds. Most come in shades of brown, grey or black, but can be practically any colour (usually depending on the climate and region), and commonly have striped, dappled or tortoiseshell/brindled patterns. They are very intelligent (more so than ordinary cats), and once fully bonded, usually will be incredibly loyal, brave, collaborative and protective. Coedian Wildcats have little to none magical abilities, instead, they have multiple enhanced, physical characteristics. They are powerful jumpers, swift climbers and very fast runners. Their usual habitats include all around the Emeraldo forests and the South-Eastern Amephyst jungles, sometimes migrating into the Eastern Rubin mountains and even South Amburn savannahs. They are carnivorous, like all felines, but are moderately docile towards wild animals, usually preferring fish than animal meat.

Birds - (Status: moderately popular, especially more so in certain places) Birds, particularly larger ones, like eagles, hawks, falcons, owls, ostriches, and such, are quite popular as pets. They're usually kept in tall cages, with general size, detail and material depending on wealth, but also sometimes pens or small aviaries. Of course, depending on species, appearance, diet and (preferred) habitat varies, as well as the rank of the dragon (larger -> richer).

Grassland Kirin - (Status: the equivalent of horses for humans; popular for those with medium to large gardens) Grassland Kirins' names are slightly misleading, as they spend most of their time in the forests of the Emeraldo and Amephyst territories, sometimes appearing on the Smoky Isles and wandering into the savannahs/grasslands of South-Eastern Amburn territory. Grassland Kirin are completely covered in fur, which (from a distance) appears to be scales or feathers. They're usually a green and/or brown colour, with small, horse-like, reddish-brown manes, along their whole spines (the manes are often streaked with yellow-greens and oranges), and long, elegant, deer-like antlers. They have large, furry ears, long, sleek snouts, and lengthy, flowing, greenish-brown, whisker-like appendages. Their irises are usually a pale, dull orange or brown and their hooves are long and sharp, with an extra, thumb-like spike on the back of each for grip. Grassland Kirin have similar diets and behaviours to deer, with the exception of being quite the bit more intelligen. They eat land vegetation, like grasses, shrubs, sedges and shoots, as well as woody plants, bark, fruit, berries, ivy, nuts and lichen. Any offer of meat, rotten or unnaturally strong-snelling foods will severely deter these Kirin, sometimes also agitating them. Grassland Kirin are the smallest species of kirin on Whyvaria, as well as being the most gentle and 'easiest to tame'. They enjog living in pairs or small herds, as they do in the wild.

Great Orchid Mantis - (Status: the equivalent to Sirian hamsters for humans, quite popular as low-effort pets) bigger genus of the common Orchid Mantis that have evolved and adapted to grow to over a foot tall. Depending on which region of a forest they come from, their bodies mimic different flowers or plants, but they commonly have majestic patterns and ornate 'crests'. Tropical Great Orchid Mantis would be bright and colourful, matching the jungle flowers there, while the ones living in cooler, deciduous forests would be paler, plainer colours, to complement the single-coloured flowers there. The Great Orchid Mantis have few magical powers, however are very strong (similarly to ant strength ratios), with powerful legs and 'pincers'. Males have small quills that contain powerful poisons, that can paralyse smaller animals almost instantly, and also have curving 'crests' on their heads (this poison is also known to be useful is multiple healing herbal mixtures for dragons). Females are larger than males, with a line of (not poisionous but threatening-looking) quills down their back. Great Orchid Mantis live mostly only in the Emeraldo and Amephyst forests and jungles, preferring to stay closer to humid and damp locations, but are also known to reside on the outskirts of the Amburn savannahs and oases, due to the semi-tropical plants there. They are carnivorous insects, that attract prey with scents and hunt them down with there silent, speedy and deadly 'claws'. They mostly eat other bugs/insects, rodents and little birds, though also small lizards sometimes as well.

Lizards and Amphibians - (Status: the equivalent, slightly more for Emeraldos, Amephysts and Emeraldos, of lizards for humans) Practically any lizards are popular pets, and, as with birds, the diet, appearance and habitat depends on the species. They're usually housed in tanks (if small), pens/enclosures or let in the open.

Mountain Kirin - (Status: the equivalent of large, slightly rare horse breeds for humans, very popular for those who are rich or own large pieces of land (only Rubins)) the largest kirin species on Whyvaria, Mountain Kirin are well-muscled, strong and brave, relying on brute force and stragetic thinking equally. They make great guards due to their size, speed and agility, not including their great sense of smell and jumping abilities. Their tough skin is covered in scales and fur almost equally. The fur pokes out around and overlaps each of their large scales (except on their heads, which are completely covered in scales). They have small (horse-like) manes on their heads, going down their backs, around their chests and on their horse-like tails. They are usually a grey-brown colour, with golden-brown manes, and deep green eyes. They have two horns, resembling those of a dragon, of a bark-brown colour, which look like a cross between goat horns and reindeer antlers.

Phoenix - (Status: the equivalent of large, rare species of horses for humans, very expensive and hard to mantain, usually mainly Rubins,  Amburns and Amephysts) large, majestic birds, which, on Whyvaria, can grow up to 1.6 metres tall with a wingspan if up to 3.8 metres. Their plumage is usually bright, vivid shades of red, orange and yellow - fiery colours. Their irises are commonly amber or gold in colour. Males have elaborate head crests and tail feathers, while females are sleeker and taller. Phoenixes mostly consume small to medium mammals, lizards, snakes, nuts, fruits and fleshy plants, though they will also eat lava alongside Amephysts and will work together to bring down larger animals. They like to inhabit mountains, rocky/dry areas and savannahs, sometimes migrating to warmer forests when Winters grow too cold in the Kingdom of Rubies. Phoenixes are highly intelligent, loyal and strong, with many magical properties. Domesticated specimens like to be housed in large cages or small aviaries, with forest and/or cliff environments, and enjoy being fed live prey or fed directly by owner (this builds the relationship and trust).

Sea Kirin - (Status: the equivalent of large horse breeds for humans, very popular for those with large habitats ideal for them or rich dragons (only Sapphires and Diamonders officially) huge, horse-like, magical creatures with multiple lion-like qualities, and being the only kirin species on Whyvaria able to fully breathe underwater. These are fairly intelligent, strategic and hard to befriend, but incredibly trustworthy when you manage to. They can grow to be over two metres tall at the shoulders (but most are only about 1.8 metres) with sleek and lithe, majestic bodies. This particular type of Kirin (a.k.a. Qilin) have all scales instead of fur or hair, unlike most which have half and half. They're usually a pale but dark blue, dusky turquoise or a light, murky navy, the colours of icy water and wet snow, with eyes of vivid but dark reds, maroons, oranges, golds and ambers. Sea Kirins have flowing manes around their heads and shoulders, as well as huge tufts of hair/fur on their (cow- or lion-like more than horse-like) tails and lower legs ('ankles' to 'knees'), which resemble icy waves splashing out. They have one unicorn-like horn on their upper central foreheads, which look like dark icicles. They live in deep water, but near land or rock (either side of the Sapphire coral reefs and the Serpent Trench), and in Arctic plains (Northern Diamonder territory). Sea Kirin tend to mostly eat seaweed, fish, crustaceans, clams, sometimes coral, and the Northern specimens are also fond of evergreen plants. They live in herds of up to 50 members, led by a female (the oldest and largest mother - a matriarch). The herds have set territories, usually huge, but like to roam around it freely, letting any passer-by go through. However, they get immediately angry and violent if a creature hurts any herd member or starts to use large amounts of their resources, e.g. food. These are formidable foes and it is highly recommended not to peeve them.

Wild Dogs - (Status: the almost exact equivalent of dogs to humans, medium to high effort pets) wild dogs to dragon on Whyvaria are almost exactly what domesticated dogs are to humans. Behaviour, diet, habitat and other preferences depend on species. Like normal dogs, these are usually let free in the homes of the dragons, or kept outside in pens or gardens.
