୨⎯ chapter sixteen ⎯୧
016. his story

CALLAHAN, a ginger hair male, with hazel eyes that anyone could get lost it. his cocky smirk that every girl fell for, his smile that just melts Ruby's heart. and him.

people usually would think he's a normal person, with all of his features. with every flaw that he had and every thing that makes someone normal.

but he wasn't normal, and he wasn't embarrassed to admit it. well, he was at first when he was younger and he wanted to look like every other kid — which he did but the only thing that made him different was that he was mute.

a lot of people wonder why he's mute, why from the night to the morning he didn't speak a single word. this stared in 1st grade. all of his friends wondered why Callahan didn't speak a single word to no one. why he would write things down, or why he would use sign languages to speak to people.

but the truth story for this, is not a comforting story. it's something that people seem uncomfortable hearing, or feel sad for the boy.

it was like any other day and his aunt dropped him off at his parents house around 9pm. His aunt got out of the car and helped him out of the car walking him over to the front door.

His aunt looked in a pot of flowers for the key and grabbed it opening up the door. Young Callahan let out a giggle dropping his backpack in the front door before running inside of the house searching for his parents. He shouted and shouted for them, his voice getting tired from yelling mom and dad.

he then froze when he rounded the kitchen to a place where he hasn't searched. not a single noise came out of his mouth, he was paralyzed, his mind was all over the place. for a young boy this wasn't something easy.

tears formed in his eyes as they started to flood in a rapid face down his eyes. he kneeled down next to his mother who's face was a ghost. blood coming out of her mouth, out of her head, her eyes were wide open staring at the ceiling. Callahan let out a sob as he started to shake his mother awake, "mama wake up. wake up." the only words that he could let out.

he repeated does words and looked over at his father telling him the same thing, having some kind of hope that they'll wake up. he stopped after his aunt entered the kitchen and let out a gasp quickly dialing 911.

young Callahan moved his gaze down to his mothers hands that was holding his teddy bear. the teddy bear that he always had ever since he was born, he slept with it, without it he couldn't sleep.

ever since that day people have tried to make him talk, people have tried to help him speak. but all he managed to do was open his mouth but nothing will come out.

doctors say that it's cause of the trauma, of the horror that he went through which caused him to lose speech, not cause he didn't want to but because he just couldn't no matter how much he tried.

growing up he always had nightmares of that day, he always wondered who killed his parents, who was the one that took the two most important people in his life away, who made him like this.

he'll never figure that out, and soon it'll be too late to know....

Callahan glanced down at his hands as he sat on the couch behind the flower shop. His leg was bouncing up and down, he felt his breath get heavy, his vision started to get filled with black dots.

Ruby, who was laying down on the couch reading a book sat up frowning their eyebrows noticing Callahan dropping his head inside of his hands trying to take deep breaths. Without speaking a word, Ruby placed the book down quickly going over to him.

She put her hands on the side of his head tilting it to look at her. She tilted her head to the side as she saw visible tears running down of his eyes. She got her other hand and grabbed one of his hands, rubbing her thumb on his palm somewhat calming him down.

Ruby started to take deep breath demonstrating to him what he should do. she didn't feel the need to talk and just with her actions he understood her perfectly. Ruby sat on her knees on the couch as her eyes never left his. they both ignored the millions of butterflies erupting inside of their bodies as their eyes stayed locked, both of them being skin to skin.

After a few breaths Callahan brought his arms around their waist hugging Ruby tightly. Ruby let out a breath as she wrapped her arms around his head, their fingers running through his ginger hair. He had his arm wrapped around her tightly not wanting to feel like she was going to leave him.

His head was in her stomach, and he slowly brought her down on her back him staying on top of her. Ruby's head landed softly on the couch still running their fingers through his hair, and him still trying to calm himself down with her touch.

"I'm here, I won't leave you."
