Trenton

I get up and go onto the balcony in the dead of night. Kylie must’ve heard me leave because she follows me out. We stand there in silence holding hands and staring out into the night sky full of twinkling stars.

“Hey. We’ll stop him,” she says comfortingly. I know it’s a lie, but she sounds so convincingly, I almost have to believe her. I look up into her green-blue eyes. They’re so comforting, so real, I’m lost in them for several seconds. And before I know it, I’m leaning in and kissing her. She doesn’t pull away and we remain locked for several seconds. Warmth blossoms in my chest and spreads to every part of my body. Every fears melts away in that instant. Then we pull away, and I’m holding back tears again.

“What was that for?” she asks.

“In case something happens,” I respond. We embrace again and she walks back inside into bed and falls asleep. I follow her and gently shake Serena awake.

“What’s going on?” she asks suddenly.

“Come outside. We need to talk.” We step out onto the balcony and we sit down in two chairs around a small table. I slowly start by telling her that Megan was gone, and instantly she crying. I tell of Megan’s last moments, and then what I did to try to protect her. I explain our predicament now, and how we know have three out of eight notes. We sit in silence. She breaks it by saying, “Why is this happening to us?”

“I don’t know,” I respond. “We must have something that he doesn’t want us to have. Maybe he’s afraid of us.”

“It makes sense,” she says, perking up. “Maybe we have our own special abilities.”

“What? That doesn’t make sense at all.”

“Yes, it does. Think about it. Kylie has been able to sense when Slenderman is coming before he comes.  When debris was flown towards Slender, it passed right threw him.      But when Dawson threw the trash can lid at him, it hit him with full force. Kylie could have the ability to sense things before they happen. Dawson can control molecular density!”

“It makes sense now!”

“And Megan was always good at school. She was as stellar student. She has super knowledge. Maybe, if we combine our powers, together we can defeat the Slenderman.”

“I wish I knew what my power was.”

“Me too.” We sit there in silence for a few more minutes when Serena yawns and stands up.

“I’m going to bed,” she says. “You should get some sleep too. You deserve it. You did a lot today.” I nod sleepily and we crawl into bed. However, sleep does not come easily to me, and it takes me several hours of tossing and turning to get to sleep. I fall into a troubled doze, full of the Slenderman and his “puppets” torturing me.
