Trenton

We landed in New York a couple hours later. We got off the plane and took a train to Central Park. We decided to look there because it was a wooded area. We were looking around when I ran into a short blonde kid. He turned around and I quickly apologized. I then asked if he had seen any notes around.

“Notes? No, not around here. My name’s Eric. I’m 13. Are you new here? I’ve never seen you around here,” he says.

“Yeah. My friends and I are from California. We’re visiting for a couple days,” I reply.

“Sweet. Maybe we can hang out, get to know each other sometime.”

“Yeah sound’s good.” He gives me his phone number and address and tells me to drop in sometime. I say goodbye to him, then go join my friends. I tell them about Eric.

“He said we could hang out sometime. And something seemed… different about him. He seemed like he was always wary of things. We should definitely get to know him better.”

The next day I call Eric as and him to meet us in Central Park. I bring Kylie and Dawson as well. When we arrive, we find that he is already there. We sit down at a wooden picnic table and then I start talking.

“This is important. What I’m about to tell you is highly confidential. You can’t tell anyone about any of this.” They all agree and I continue, speaking more to Eric. “Have you heard of the game Slender?”

“Yeah. I love that game!”

“Well, I don’t know how to break this to you, but it’s real. And he is dangerous. He is after us.” I pull out the notes and show them to him. ”We’re trying to find all eight of them. Have you seen any?”

“No, not that I can remember.”

“Okay. Well, would you like to help us look for them and put a stop to him?”

“What makes me so qualified? I’m just a regular guy.”

“No, you’re not. None of us are.” I whip out a pen and throw it at Dawson, who is sitting on the opposite end of the table. He raises his hands in defense, shock written across his face. However, the pen never hits him. It fazes right through him. He looks down at his hands as though they were solid gold. Serena quickly grabs another from her pocket, but Kylie is already ducking. Serena turns and throws it at her, but it misses. Dawson falls through the bench of the table and sprawls on the ground.

“What was that for? What just happened?” Dawson and Kylie scream together. Dawson climbs up onto the bench again and Kylie sits up straight.

“We have special abilities. Dawson can control molecular density of anything. Himself or any nearby objects. We figured this out when he first threw that trashcan lid at Slender.  I had seen debris flying at him, and it had gone right through him. Dawson had no idea of this until now. He may be able to control it now.”

Serena continued off my words. “Kylie. You have the ability of foresight. You knew Slender was coming before he was there. You can sense things minutes before they happen. You may be able to harness this ability now.” We gave them a moment for that to sink in.

“So what you’re saying,” Eric said, “is that I have a special ability?”

“Yes,” I confirm. “And I think I know what it is. Go stand in the open with your back to me.” Eric complied, and was standing roughly 20 feet away. “Now I want you to relax. Calm down, think about your breath-“ Midsentence I grabbed another one of my pens and threw it as hard I could at his back. He turned quickly and grabbed the pen mid-spin. He stepped back, shocked, and dropped the pen.

“You have super reflexes. Almost like Kylie, but you don’t sense things minutes before, but merely seconds before. It’s a great skill for fighting. So what do you say. You in?”

“I don’t know. Maybe. I’ll have to check with my friends. I’m staying with them for a while.”

“Okay. No need for rushing. We can walk with you home.” We leave Central Park and walk in silence back to Eric’s apartment where he was staying. He took out his key and opens the door. By apartment standards, it was nice.

“Nick! Jordan!” he called. We hear shuffling coming from a back room and a door creaks open. While we were waiting for them, I look around. There a small kitchen merged with a dining room that had a small four-person table. This opens up to a living room area. There was a small couch and a beanbag for one person. There was a small table and a television set. There was a hallway that led to three rooms, one of which was a bathroom. There were two bedrooms that I couldn’t see into. Two people, apparently Nick and Jordan, emerge from these rooms. I guessed they were brothers, but one was taller than the other. He looked older, too.

“Nick, Jordan, meet my new friends. Serena, Trenton, Dawson, and Kylie.” He gestured to each of us in turn. “This is Nick,” he pointed to the taller brother, “and this is Jordan.” We get introduced and sit down in the living room. We pull in some of the chairs from the dining room. They ask if we have a place to stay, and when we say we don’t, they offer to have us here. We agree and get settled in.
