Trenton

Two minutes. Two minutes to make an impossible decision. Save my girl friend, and live with regret, wondering what would’ve happened if I had saved the other, and vice versa. I turned to the others, and we huddled.

“You’d better save my girl friend,” Eric demanded.

“I’ll try my best, but right now, I need you guys to pretend we’re discussing something,” I whispered. As they talked about nothing, I mentally talked to Serena.

“We need to do that teleport thing again with Kylie,” I told her urgently.

“Just save Kylie, I don’t need to be alive,” she told me.

“No way. I’m saving both of you. Think about Eric. He would be devastated.” She considered this before finally agreeing. “Okay, I’ll give you the signal.” I turned back around and faced.

“Finally made your choice, pathetic hero?” he asked me spitefully.

“Yes, and I choose both of them.”

“You must choose one,” he demanded, anger rising in his voice. I did my best to look defeated.

“I’ll take… Serena.” I heard everyone gasp behind me, and I saw the fear in Kylie’s eyes when she heard those words part from my lips. The tentacle around Serena’s neck vanished, and she ran towards us. Immediately, we touched palms, and in a flash of bright light, Kylie stood by us. She fell into my arms, and I supported her. Slender stood in the same spot as before, and slowly a dark aura surrounded him like black flames. In his hands grew a sword, made purely of shadows, constantly shifting around. Moving with inhuman speed, he closed the gap between us in the blink of an eye. The sword was descending swiftly towards me, and I knew I would never make it in time. I felt a rush of wind, and the sword stopped. In front of me was Kathryn, holding off the sword with her own. We all stepped back, and the Slenderman back off. Kathryn had a fire in her eyes, ready to protect us at all costs. He charged once again, and Kathryn exchanged each strike in a flurry of blows that was over in an instant.

“Go Kathryn!” Eric yelled. Slender pointed one of his skeletal hands at us, and shadows left from his hand, flying at us at incredible speed, changing in midair. The shadows became humanoid figures, holding different weapons. They advanced on all sides, bearing down on us. We all unsheathed our weapons. Luckily they were substantial and able to be killed, but I think they were meant as a distraction. A distraction from Kathryn. Kylie and Eric were back to back holding off the shades. Aly was summoning small bush warriors to fend off the shades, and Dawson and Serena were working as a well-coordinated team. I was trying to make a path to get to Kathryn to help her out, but as I got closer, more and more shadows would block the way. I finally managed to run straight through them using Dawson’s power, and I made a break for Kathryn. Just in time too. Slender had just disarmed her. I ran forward and flung my knife at him, but he easily deflected him. I was running, but I was getting nowhere. Kathryn was on the ground, defenseless. I was so far, unable to prevent the inevitable. Kathryn turned her head in my direction, and we locked eyes. Time slowed down. I mouthed the words “I’m sorry”. She mouthed back “It’s okay”. I saw the sword coming down, the helpless look in her eyes. She shut them. And then time sped up, and the sword fell, claiming its victim.

Kathryn was dead.
