I yawned, watching as our new recruits filed in. Two weeks had passed since Sapphire Davis had died. I vowed that I'd reach for our freedom, that I'd try as hard as I could for her, for Angela, for Carter.

They didn't die in vain.
They died for freedom.

We had been welcoming a steady flow of new recruits every few days, as long as they had been proven trustworthy. The process was tiresome, but I enjoyed watching our plan steadily unfold.

"Did you want to go up to bed?" Jameson asked, pulling me to his side as we watched Alexi and Jace welcome the next three recruits. They had become awfully close lately.

I shook my head at Jameson. "Look, there are only two more," I said, stepping forward to greet the final two with friendly smiles. A tap on my arm diverted my attention from the guests and I turned to see that it was Toby.

"I found more stuff." He said, holding up a wad of paper.

I sighed, rubbing at my tired eyes. "Toby you got here last week and I've already got more paper on my desk than there are trees still left in the world. Please, just give it to someone else—maybe Lexi; she's good with that stuff." I said, watching him roll his eyes but retreat, walking over to Lexi. I felt as someone snaked their arms around my waist, pulling my attention away from Toby and Lexi.

"Can we go now?" The person asked, leaning down to rest his chin on my shoulder.

I swivelled around in his arms, smiling up at him. "The quicker we go, the more time we have." I winked at him, before grabbing his hand and leading him out of the room.

As we ascended the stairs, we saw Cassie walking down the stairs carefully, Colton in her arms.

"Use protection," she said when she noticed us climbing the stairs. "These things are hard." She gestured to Cole, who was babbling away in her arms.

Jameson and I shared a look at that, before rushing to our bedroom in my parents' house and shutting ourselves in.

"Hard days work," I paused to kiss Jameson, who was pulling down the sleeves of my dress. "Deserves a," I said, before pressing my lips on his again, "hell of a night."

Jameson hummed in agreement, and then he took me to the bed.

When we were done, it was ten at night, and we were tangled up in each other's embrace.

"Wow." Jameson exhaled, brushing his hair back.

I hummed in response, my cheek resting against Jameson's chest. "I don't even want to look at the condom." I joked, making Jameson laugh.

"Yeah," he agreed, before shifting and tossing the condom into the bin. I'm sure it was all piling up now.

"I feel like...like even Alexi would disapprove of us right now," I said suddenly, feeling Jameson shift beside me.

"You're thinking about Alexi right now?" He asked in response.

I rolled my eyes, pushing myself up so that I could look at him. "I mean, we're having frequent sex."

Jameson rose an eyebrow. "That's a problem?" He asked, sounding completely bewildered.

I laughed. "No, of course not, I just feel like Lexi's usually the one with bragging rights on her sex life," I said, tracing the lines of his abs with my index finger.

Jameson hummed. "Unless she's secretly hooking up with Jace." He said, making me pull a face.

"That's...oh god, I don't want to imagine that," I said, scrunching my face up and waving my hand around violently.

"Why? Is it–"

Jameson was interrupted by the sound of the door opening.

"Hey, guys." A voice said, making my eyes widen.

I turned as the person closed the door. Alexi Abbot.

Speak of the devil.

"I have something to confess," Alexi announced, and then she fell silent when she saw us in bed. "And apparently so do you guys." She said, though shook it off—along with her shoes.

"What are you–"

And then she jumped on top of the bed.

"Lexi!" I yelled, "seriously? Have you ever heard of privacy?"

"No," Lexi said, frowning, "I can't hear anything, can you, Jameson?"

I rolled my eyes, groaning and falling back on the bed. "Your confession..?" I asked Lexi.

"Yes. I have to confess something acutely pressing. Like, really, it's–"

"–you like Jace," Jameson said, interrupting her.

I glanced between them. "What?"

They both stared at me. "You didn't know?" Jameson asked, seeming surprised.

"Hey, I think it was a pretty well-kept secret," Alexi said, defending herself.

I watched Jameson raise his eyebrow at her as I pieced together what to say. "I mean...I guess I knew that something was going on," Lexi nodded slowly. "Why didn't you tell me?" I asked her abruptly.

She drew back, casting her eyes away. Her response was to shrug.

"If it was so obvious then why didn't you just tell me? Or...him?" I asked her, watching as her eyes widened in response.

"Tell him? That's the one thing I didn't want to do." I frowned at her.

"Why? Wouldn't it be better if he knows?" I asked, perplexed.

She stared at me, before casting her eyes away. "I don't know. I mean, maybe it has something to do with the fact that, in January, he thought the idea of a relationship with me was disgusting, or the fact that Elle told me that I shouldn't be in a relationship with him, or maybe I'm just bad at–"

"–wait," I said quickly, making her freeze, "my mum told you not to be with him?" I asked her, my eyes searching hers.

She didn't blink for a few moments. I think she had been so lost in her words that she didn't realise what she had told me. "Kind of, yes."

"Jesus," I said, sitting up and pulling the covers with me. I brushed my hair back as I mulled this over.

"This is my mum's fault?" I asked, though to no one in particular.

"Well, I suppose, but I was already keeping it a secret when she told me not to say anything," Alexi said, making me shake my head.

"I need to confront her about this," I said, before beginning to peel the covers off me.

"Whoa, whoa," Lexi said, pressing the covers back against my body. I threw a look at her. "I know I've seen you naked before, I just didn't want to see Jameson naked."

I heard Jameson mutter something under his breath from where he lay beside me, but I wasn't listening to him.

"If I can't fight her about it now, I'll just have to fight her lasting impression," I said defiantly, eyes on Lexi once more.

"Cool," Lexi said, nodding slowly again, "but, unfortunately, I'm not a poet, so I don't actually know what you mean."

I ignored Lexi. "She told you not to tell him; I'm telling you to tell him. Trust me, it's worth it."

Lexi cracked a smile at that. "Yeah, I bet." She said, throwing a wink at Jameson, hinting at our sex lives.

"No, honestly, Lexi. For a start, it'll be a massive weight off your shoulders, and also, he probably already knows." I watched her nod at that, smiling.

"Yeah. We've nearly had sex a few times."

I gaped at her.

"Wow, I did not need to know that," Jameson said, though it was muffled by the duvet.

"Just," I tried to remember how to speak. "Just clarify it, then, so you can be happy."

"And have sex?" Alexi suggested, making Jameson groan.

"I...guess, yeah. Only if you want to, though, and he does too," I told her, and she nodded.

"Cool." She said, before sighing. "I'm nervous." She admitted.

I reached out and clasped onto her hand. "Don't be—you're Alexi Abbot."

She smiled, her eyes glinting. "Of course I am, what kind of guy rejects that?"

With that, she hopped off our bed and left, slamming the door behind her.

Jameson grunted. "Give me a heads up the next time she wants a threesome."

I rolled my eyes, falling back against his chest. "You're just as bad as each other."
