"o-kay," grandma paguro hisses as she paces around luca, whose splayed on a rock. "so far, so good. i don't think either of them know, but," she turns to luca, "it will not be easy keeping something like this a secret for any longer."
luca plucks petals off of another lotus he had found, "he loves me," he giggles, before plucking another petal and frowning, "hmm, he loves me not."
he gasps as he plucks off the last petal off the lotus, he hugs it to his chest. "he loves me! i knew it!" he trills excitedly.
grandma paguro sighs and looks over at how happy luca is, and she can't help but smile, reminiscing her first love.
"i-" luca stammers suddenly, shooting up, "i gotta see him again- tonight! scuttle must know where he lives!" he squeaks.
grandma paguro laughed to herself, she could probably say anything right now and luca wouldn't be able to translate it, she gives it a try. "luca, stop talking crazy." she says, monotone as she crosses her arms, "luca, please, will you get your head out of the clouds and back in the water where it belongs?"
she was right, luca was cupping giuseppes face, clicking excitedly and shaking the goatfish. "i'll swim up to his house, then giuseppe," he trills, "you will splash around to get his attention, and then with—"
luca trailed off, jabbing unintelligible nonsense now, grandma paguro was impressed that luca had conquered up such a quick plan. she shook her head, bringing his attention to her by grabbing his shoulders.
before she could speak, giuseppe suddenly spoke up, making grandma paguro dead pan.
"down here is your home!" giuseppe begins, pleading desperately trying to keep his friend safe, "luca, listen to me;" he grabs luca face, sitting him down on the rock again, with grandma paguro following to cross her arms and fall asleep against her hands "the human world, it's a mess. life under the sea is better than anything they got up there!"
"the seaweed is always greener,
in somebody else's lake,
you dream about going up there?
but that, is a big mistake."
he flicks lucas nose, waving a fin around them.
"just look at the world around you,
right here on the ocean floor!
such wonderful things surround you,
what more is you lookin' for?"
some angel fish swim around luca, making him float up and twirl with them, before sitting down as giuseppe sits on his lap.
"under the sea,
it's not for me."
grandma paguro grumbles to herself, frowning. she remembers something and leaves.
"darling it's better,
down where it's wetter
take it from me!"
giuseppe winks before exaggerating his body.
"up on the shore
they work all day,
out in the sun,
they slave away!
while we devotin'
full time to floatin'
under the sea!"
he twirls around to twirl around a blue lobster, whose playing at some clams to produce a sound to the tune of the song.
they wrap arms around eachother, beaming.
"down here all
the fish are happy,
as off through
the walls they roll."
they frown, still linking arms together.
"the fish on
the land ain't happy,
they sad, 'cause
they in their bowl.
but fish in
the bowl is lucky,
they in for a worser fate."
a fish stuck in a bubble limps in-front of luca, who watches in horror before giuseppe pops the bubble with his tail fin.
"one day, when
the boss gets hungry;
guess who's gon' on the plate.
under the sea,
under the sea!
nobody beat us,
fry us and eat us
in fricassee!"
luca laid down, staring at his sleeping grandmother in amusement as he taps his fingers under flowers below, a lotus still in his hair. suddenly a sea hoarse darts out, joined by others, and they all twirl around luca, who giggles.
"we what the
land folks love to cook,"
giuseppe dances towards a clamp, opening its mouth and throwing a hook inside, before reversing and darting away.
"under the sea,
we off the hook.
we got no troubles,
life in the bubbles,
under the sea!"
some large sea snails behind him sing in chorus.
"under the sea!"
"since life is sweet here
we got the beat here,"
some other sea snails join in, bulging their eyes.
"naturally!"
"even the surgeon
an' the ray,
they get the urge
'n' start to play!
we got the spirit,
you get to hear it
under the sea!"
he catches his breath, about to do a single bridge in one breath, his list of respective species present themselves and their talents.
"the newt play the flute,
the carp play the harp.
the plaice play the bass,
and they soundin' sharp.
the chub play the tub,
the fluke is the duke of the soul."
he sucks in a breath, as that a fish says "yeah."
"the ray he can play,
the lings on the strings.
the trout rockin' out,
the blackfish she sings!
the smelt and the sprat,
they know where it's at,
an' oh that blowfish blow!"
as giuseppe gets to catch his breath, they species around him dance and sway to the instrumental. grandma paguro comes back, and with the perfect diversion, she whispers into lucas ear and ushers him away excitedly.
"under the sea,
under the sea!
when the sardine,
begin the beguine
it's music to me.
what do they got?
a lot of sand?
we got a hot
crustacean band!
each little clam here,
know how to jam here!
under the sea!
each little slug here,
cuttin' a rug here!
under the sea!
each little snail here,
know how to wail here-
that's why it's hotter,
under the water!
ya we in luck here,
down in the muck and
under the sea!"
they all point to where the two sea monsters were, panting in anticipation. but no ones there, and they all grumble.
"luca? luca!" giuseppe sighs in dismay, "oh . . . somebody's got to nail that boys fins to the floor." he snaps.
"giuseppe?" he suddenly hears lorenzo calling, he spots him and they lock eyes, "giuseppe! i've been looking all over for you!" he looks around, looking for luca and his mother in law then sighs.
"you'll do," he suddenly swims off, giuseppe following him and asking him to explain, "i've got an urgent message from daniela."
"daniela?" he gulps.
"yes," he turns his head, giuseppe can't see his proud beam, "something about luca."
giuseppe freezes, then follows reluctantly, she knows!
