CHAPTER ONE

Clank, clank, clank.

Your eyes flew open to that sound, confusion ringing in your ears. Since when did your roof leak? It hadn't done that in years. But when your vision clears, you're not in your room. No, much worse. Because the truth is, you have absolutely no idea where you actually are.

The building (wherever you are) is gloomy and smells, though you can't pin-point what the metallic smell actually is. Carefully, afraid that you may have broken something, you push yourself to your feet, wobbling slightly as you lose your balance. The place has an immediate shady feeling to it, and you bite your lip nervously. Where was everyone?

You couldn't remember what had happened, how you had ended up here. The building had a slight green hue which made you shiver; and that was another thing, the cold. Which meant that there was no heating.

Did Freddy and everyone else know where you were? What about Foxy?

A pang shot through your heart. Foxy. You hadn't had time to say sorry, to work out your problems. And now you were unsure whether you'd ever even see him again. Right now it didn't look like you'd be going anywhere.

Then a noise caught your attention. A rapid clanking and heavy breathing. You freeze. Would this other person attempt to hurt you? Was it an animatronic? Foxy?

It wasn't.

A second later, a familiar face appears, and before you can even think about it, you've thrown your arms around him. Mike. Mike was here as well.

"Hey, I'm not the hugging type, and we're kind of in a situation." Mike panted, pushing you off uncomfortably. You step back with a shrug.

"Yeah, I know." You shake your head, glancing at the green-coloured walls. "I only just woke up to find myself here and-"

Mike coughed, grasping your attention. "Only just? I've been here for two days, and, trust me, you do not know what actual situation we're in. Freddy keeps attacking me."

"Freddy? What?" Your hopes peak. "He's here? But why would he attack you?"

"No, not our Freddy. Another one." Mike continues before you can speak again. "It's like a darker version of him. And it's really terrifying."

You sigh and press your back to one of the cold walls. Everything seemed empty and you felt isolated. Now you were getting freaked out. This wasn't a place that you wanted to be in. The building seems free of life, as if a sleeping creature yearns not to wake, and so everyone else abides.

A part of you screamed silently that this was dangerous. That something lurked here. And not something that you want to meet.

The light was not kind.

The shadows attempted time and time again to edge forward, but the light stung and bit. In the dark they felt safe, where it was cold and devoid of life. Where souls cried in agony and twisted around in the shadows. Just how they liked.

But they were hungry, the true shadows were. Souls hadn't wandered their way for years, and before long they would fade. Until he, their supreme master, had ventured to their home, they had been on that route, the one of no return.

And here were more souls. Ones that burnt but wavered with fear. Just how they liked. He had done what they had asked, and now it was their turn. Yet, he had told them to wait. To play. Playing they did not understand, but mind tricks they did.

Games, yes. They liked, they did, to drive their victims insane. To make them scream and cry and be afraid of every small movement. Games. Mind Games.
