I was sat on the bus seat, my back cornered between the bus window and the back of the seat, my head stuck in a book, trying to concentrate on anything but the sleep I need. I close my eyes against my wishes, and as I began to drift off my best buddy's loud voice could be heard. "What's even the point of this?!" Dallas Winston yelled as he stepped on the bus, Johnny, my other close friend, walking closer behind. Keeping my eyes closed in hopes for more energy, I felt him sit down next to me and lean over towards me, "Wake up sweetheart." He whispered sarcastically. I opened my eyes reluctantly and glared at him tiredly over my book. "You didn't get sleep did ya Y/N?" Johnny asked quietly. I shook my head and let out a yawn "The kids kept me up all night again." I love my two kid-sister and my kid-brother but living in a family that consists only one parent, and five kids? It gets awful rough, especially if the father and the oldest son work two jobs to support us, leaving me watching the twins Alyssa and Gabby who were nine, and sweet little Tommy who was only six. "Where's Timmothy in all of this?" Dally asked almost angry "Tim, he is working two full time jobs...." I mumbled tiredly. Dally did one of those lip bite things before speaking again "Alright, next stop we are getting off, and you are going to go home and sleep." "But..." I let out a yawn "That would mean walking..." "Not for you." Dropping the subject I yawn again and close my eyes.

I guess I must of dozed off because next thing I know I'm being laid down on the couch. I open my eyes and looked at the person who brought me home. "No, no, no go back to sleep, I'll wake you up when the kids get home." Dally explained quietly. I close my eyes, falling asleep at the question that haunted my mind, why was Dally Winston being nice?

I awoke at what felt like days but was only seven hours, as I could hear Alyssa and Gabby chatting away loudly as the led a fussy Tommy in the house. The stopped all of a sudden, they must of saw Dally. I quickly sat up on the couch and looked at the children. "Y/N... who's in the house?" Alyssa asked I looked over at Dally and for once, saw the way others see Dally. Scary and mean looking, and for once I was scared of him, mostly because of my groggy state. "Children, this  is my friend Dally. He's gonna help me watch you today." "But you do fine watching us by yourself!" Gabby complained "Well sweetheart I'm not getting any sleep... it'll be fine I promise." I smiled and got of the couch to hug the nine year old girl. I felt a small tug on the sleeve of my black sweater. Looking over I saw Tommy handing me something, a picture.

"Did you draw this at school?" I ask and he nodded "But there's only four people?" I asked noticing only a blue stick figure a purple stick figure and two green stick figures, most likely representing the twins. He pointed to the blue figure and said "Me." He pointed to me  and the purple figure "You." And then pointed to the twins and the green figures "Them." "Where's your brother Timmothy and your dad?" Dally asked all of a sudden. Tommy just simply shrugged "Well I think it's a nice picture." I smiled "Here" I took the picture from his hand and walked over to the kitchen and hung  it on the fridge with one of the many, many, MANY, magnets. Dally walked over to me and whispered "The kid don't see em enough to draw him don't he." I shook my head "Nah, not really, they are never home. I've practically raised those kids by myself..." I trailed "Why don't you ask for help, no use in tiring yourself out if you need to take care of em." He shrugged and stuffed his hands in his jean pockets.  "Who are you and what have you done to Dally Winston?" I asked jokingly and smiled "Decided to go crawl in a ditch and die." He replied I rolled my eyes and shook my head. "Y/N, when are we having dinner?" Alyssa asked her grey  wide wide with innocence, yet she understood the score. I sighed and looked at her, dark colored hair was  braided at the back of her head and for a nine year old, she was rather small, she would end up like Darry Curtis, I could tell, only thing to keep her a greaser being Gabby and Tommy who already started showing their 'hood'. "Listen, I can go drop by a DQ and pick somethin up." Dally stated "I'm not gonna ask you to do that." I stated crossing my arms. "Just burgers and fries." Alyssa stated smiling I sighed "And cokes to drink, expect for Tommy get him a sprite." I stated agreeing "The girl knows the score." He whispered as he passed me on his way out.

"Thanks Dally, but you really didn't need to do this." I explained again as we got the food passed out. He shrugged again a bit into his sandwich*. "It was awful nice if you to do this for us Mr." Tommy thanked him and Gabby and Alyssa nodded. Something changed in Dally's eyes and stared at his burger that he was holding. I nudged him with my elbow and asked "You ok?" I asked. He swallowed and smiled, one of those rare, genuine smiles.

After dinner it wasn't too late, only seven and the kids go to bed at nine. Well tonight they didn't, by eight thirty they were all tired out after playing all those card games (alright it was actually poker, but they didn't gamble) with Dally. "Alright kids, I think tonight you should go to bed early." Dally suggested as he noticed they were all yawning, well except Tommy, he passed out five minutes ago. "But it's only eight thirty!" Gabby complained "Yea, but I think Y/N is gonna need some sleep to you know." Dally tried to convince them. "Alright..." they finally agreed and headed towards their room. I picked up the sleeping Tommy off the floor an headed towards mine and his room. Laying him down on the smaller bed, I kissed his forehead and pulled the blanket over him. Turning around I saw Dally in the doorway. "You'd make a great mother." He stated crossing his arms. "Heh, you think so?"

Nine o'clock came by and Dally left not before leaving a note stating 'When you need me call -Dally' and wishing you knew how he felt.
