Ailsa was glad of the manic period at work. It meant that she spent very little time in the flat with Guy. She was determined that she would have not temptation put in her way. Not even when she caught a glimpse of him coming out of the shower. His curls all flattened and the water running slowly down his chest. The thought of him drove her crazy. Not crazy enough to act on her impulses but nearly crazy enough.

She sat at her desk with twenty different  samples of face cream trying to work out what one actually did what when she spotted the features editor bowl into her cubicle. Her red cropped copper bob swinging. A flurry of perfectly matched clothes in shades of blue and green.

"God alone knows why Ailsa but everyone is talking about your article. Our twitter, tumblr, instagram and facebook accounts have gone viral." Janice the features editor was a veteran and legend of magazine publishing. She got the celebrity endorsement without kissing ass. She got designers to give her insights no one else could. Her no nonsense approach was admired globally.

Along with her non nonsense approach was her attention to detail and ability to drag a story out of a writer. Ailsa knew that Janice had her in her sights.

"Can you interview that vet. You know a day in the life and maybe some of the work he does with the animals he saves and mention the ones he doesn't." Janice's violet eyes pierced at her.

"Sure. When, how many words?" Ailsa scrambled around her desk for a pen and paper to accurately take down Janice's directions.

"Can I have your first draft by next Monday. We'll send some photographers with you when you visit. Just book it in with my PA. I hear from Paul and Andy that he is a bit of a looker so make sure you get some really good shots."

"Cool. Thanks for the second feature." Ailsa half smiled at Janice. She along with every other writer in La Vivre wanted Janice's approval.

"You have a unique voice which is interesting to the reader.  The more readers the more advertising. More advertising more mullahs for me and you. It's my job as an editor to find the talent." Janice swung out of Ailsa's cubicle.

Ailsa wondered how to broach the subject with Guy. She wracked her brain and settled on a strategy. After five minutes' thought she called Guy's practice.

"Hey Ailsa what can I do for you?" Guy sounded distracted. He was, he had a kitten in one hand and the phone jammed under his chin.

"Do you fancy dinner out? I am paying. We can go to Black and Blue in Borough Market." Ailsa knew that Guy had a weakness for their steaks and he would find it hard to turn down a free dinner.

"Steak on a Tuesday? What do you really want?" Guy laughed he popped the pill into the kitten's mouth, careful to make sure she had swallowed the tablet and retrieved the phone to listen more carefully.

"I have a proposition for you. Meet me there at 7 ish and I will reveal all." Ailsa tied to be mysterious.

"Great! See you then." Guy really hoped that revealing all included clothes optional but knew it wouldn't. This made his mind wander to Carnal thoughts when he remembered with a flash that he was supposed to be at Jackie's on Tuesday.

Guy checked with reception that he didn't have any other patients. He slid outside the building and dialled Jackie. He took a deep breath when she answered.

"Hey Jackie l am so sorry I am going to have to cancel Tuesday." He was genuinely sorry. Jackie was a great girl and he wasn't for messing her around.

"Why?" Jackie tried unsuccessfully to keep the annoyance from her voice.

"Ailsa is taking me out to dinner. I think it is to do with another article for her magazine. You know we have been inundated at work since it went out." Guy had never been so busy. His partners in the practice were delighted with the upturn in business.

"Oh well, if it's business I can't really get upset can I?" Jackie's voice was flat. She was trying hard not to become clingy and jealous around Ailsa, however it was tougher by the day.

"Cool, thanks for being so understanding. You are amazing." Guy tried to hide the relief in his voice. He could tell that Jackie was jealous of Ailsa. Jackie took every opportunity to quiz him about her. He always put her mind at rest. Ailsa, the evening with the article apart, had never given him reason to think that she had the hots for him again.

Guy slipped back into surgery and managed to keep his mind on sick budgies rather than Ailsa for a few hours.
