It had shocked me to hear how much Seokjin had been bearing upon his shoulders. I, of all people, should have known that he was having serious trouble. I felt guilty because I had focused only on Bella's side of the issue. I should have been more supportive of my best friend. The guilt made me desperate to solve his problem.

I asked Seokjin to confer with his university team since he mentioned that they were working on a mock merger project that involved KWI and Coastal Entertainment. I hoped that they had researched far enough into both companies to find even the slightest thread of information that we could use.

Taehyung and I also wanted to investigate Fiona Gettis a little further. Why would she have made up claims of being pregnant with Seokjin's child? It would have been too easy to prove her wrong, so there must be something else to her story. For this mission, we recruited the rest of the guys. Hoseok, Yoongi, and Jimin were due to arrive any hour now, and we would soon move into position to investigate.

Seokjin did not seem very confident in our plan. The party tonight would be the perfect backdrop, but he felt that it was too late to change anything. In 48 hours, he said he was prepared to marry Fiona. I was disturbed by his resignation. Where was the confident, positive guy we all knew? We had to help him. We had to find out what was really going on.

That night at the party, I sent in the guys toward Fiona Gettis as if I were deploying troops. I hoped that one of them would spark Fiona's fancy, and she might reveal something about why she was adamant in marrying a man who didn't want her. The plan was for Seokjin to ignore her enough to make her feel lonely and bored. Then I would send the guys in one by one over the course of the evening to try and charm her and get the truth.

First, I sent Hoseok. With his sunny disposition, he had soon struck up a cheerful conversation with Fiona after Seokjin left their table abruptly. When the dancing started, I was certain that she would fall for him immediately. After all, he was an excellent dancer. They danced happily for some time, but when he tried to convince her to go outside and talk further, she excused herself and went back to find Seokjin. Hoseok glanced at me and shrugged. Strike one.

Next, I sent Yoongi to casually bump into Fiona. He was good at soul-searching conversations, and after a few drinks, I hoped that Fiona was ready to unburden her soul. I even instructed Seokjin to ask other girls to dance in order to upset her. They seemed to be in deep discussion, and we waited out of their sight to see if Yoongi was able to discover anything. However, he soon came to find us. She had stopped talking because she didn't want Seokjin's friend to think badly of her. Strike two.

My last hope was Jimin. We had decided not to send Taehyung because she knew that he was Seokjin's cousin. I hoped Jimin might find out something because I did not want to try my hand at charming her. I was too upset with what she had done to Bella to remain objective.

Jimin showed up at her table with a drink in each hand and his patented crescent-eyed smile. When she expressed dismay at talking to another of Seokjin's friends, Jimin was quick to tell her that he actually disliked Seokjin. She was shocked at the short history he gave her, but then she seemed to warm up to him after Jimin turned on the charm to maximum. I had Seokjin play his part and act offended that his fiancée was talking with Jimin. After a brief verbal altercation, Seokjin marched away angrily, and Fiona was left sobbing on Jimin's shoulder.

After a couple of hours of drinking, dancing, and flirting, Fiona finally let her guard down. She and Jimin went out into the less crowded lobby of the ballroom and sat in one of the couches hidden in a corner.

Hours later, we waited in Seokjin's room at his house--we were all actually staying as his guests. We were almost asleep when Seokjin finally entered his room. We immediately sat up.

Jimin got to his feet and cleared his throat.

"It's not yours," he said slowly. "Fiona is pregnant, but the baby is not yours."

My eyes were glued to Seokjin's face as he blinked rapidly, processing the information. Then he slumped to his knees and covered his face with his hands.
