Beryl sat there on the ledge, pondering why Diamond wanted to meet him later. It was odd, a dragon that he had just met wanted to hang out with him. Perhaps literally.

He was so lost in though, he didn't see Sylvite fly up beside him and land on the ledge. His parents followed shortly after.

"Boo!" Sylvite said. She laughed when Beryl jumped. "Ha, yet the echoes of the cave at night don't scare you? But your sister sneaking up on you does?"

"Stop it, Sylvite," Beryl shook his head. "I wasn't scared, just startled." he retorted.

"Hmph," Sylvite huffed and sat down.

"Sylvite, Beryl, stop arguing," Feldspar, their mother, ordered. Granite, their father, gave them a stern glare.

"Dragons and dragonets, boys and girls..." On the tallest ledge stood a dark gray BoulderWing with blue-ish crystals down his back. He had a scroll in his talons. The rays of sun had finally reached the amethyst. "Presenting, the one and only.... Queen Platinum of the BoulderWings!"

The dragons watching from the ledges cheered. Queen Platinum strode out from a cave in the side of the wall of the Great Cavern that lead onto the ledge where the dragon with the scroll was standing. She had pale gray scales, and the crystals down her back were silver. She was a massive dragon, bigger than any other BoulderWing that Beryl had seen in his life. Platinum had been queen of the BoulderWings for as long as he could remember.

"Settle down everyone!" The queen commanded. Her voice echoed off the walls of the Great Cavern. A hush fell over all of the dragons. "Now then, time for the daily announcements!"

The BoulderWings looked up at Queen Platinum as she read her daily speech from a scroll in her talons. "Today, we welcome two new dragonets into the tribe, Obsidian and Peridot! We congratulate proud parents Lazuli and Jasper on their two beautiful dragonets!" The audience cheered and clanked their talons together.

Queen Platinum continued her speech. She said something about barricading a cave entrance, something about the underground river, but Beryl wasn't listening. He was bored out of his mind. There was nothing new here, nothing at all. Inside, he felt sick and tired of living in this dreary cave. He wanted to leave. He wanted to fly free.
