Cliché is defined as a term, phrase, or even idea that, upon its inception, may have been striking and thought-provoking but became unoriginal through repetition and overuse.

The word cliché is borrowed from French, where it is a past passive participle of clichér, which means to click. As such, you'll often see it with an accent over the "e" but you can also write it as cliche in English. In printing presses, the cast iron plate called stereotype reproduced words, phrases, or images repeatedly. The noise that the casting plate made sounded like "cliché" to the French printers, so this onomatopoeia word became printer's jargon for the stereotype. Therefore, it is ready-made, often repeated.

We all have heard the complaint, "Ugh, such a cliché!" That's because many think all the cliche stories are the same and cliché writers are unoriginal, but it wouldn't feel so if the approach and style, plot and pace are different. Cliché can be conveyed in a unique way too that would make a story charming and authentic. That is why WattClichés is here. Together we are going to celebrate cliché stories and project it in a good light!
