Blinking his eyes open, Max found himself in a misty clearing. There was no sign of his brother Duke or the apartment they shared with Katie. Tail tucked between his legs, the small dog whimpered with fear. "Enough with the whining!" a voice hissed from behind him. Frightened, Max whirled around.

Merely a few feet away from him stood one of the ugliest cats that Max had ever seen in his entire life. Scars covered the hairless cat's body while a single right eye gleamed green. Tail swishing over the mist, the cat limped forward until he was face to face with the small dog. "The time has come!" he yowled, baring his teeth. Max's heart pounded, threatening to burst.

"Leave him alone!" another voice shouted. This one, however, sounded familiar to Max as a figure stepped forward. His dark brown eyes glared at the hairless cat, who snarled before limping away. Huffing, the figure gazed upon Max. His silver and white fur glistened in the faint light. Almost afraid to say the name, Max whispered, "Rocky?"

Nodding his head, Rocky walked towards Max quietly. Sitting down beside him, the Pomeranian looked at the small dog. "Before you ask, you're not dead," he informed before Max could say anything. The small dog shut his mouth while Rocky continued, "Rex, however, does have a point. The time has come. Only the fifteen can defeat the danger looming over the city."

Confused, Max wanted to ask Rocky what he meant. But something was pulling him away from Gidget's deceased father. Before he knew it, Max found himself in his living room. Duke and Katie were staring down at him like he was a crazy person.
