Previously...

The man turned around, revealing his face to Kyrah.

"You-You, uh," she stuttered and fell unconscious.

There was chaos in the Serpent Palace. Servants rushed about fulfilling orders and listening to new ones. King Marsel was found consoling his wife, Queen Lilah.

"Where is my baby? I need her back!" she said in between uncontrollable sobs.

"We are trying our best Lilah," Marsel answered quietly.

"Summon my brother, minister Hiram," he ordered.

"Yes, Your Majesty," a servant bowed, and left.

Within a minute, the King's brother Hiram entered the palace. He was a man of medium height, with a round face and was older than his brother Marsel. You couldn't tell they were brothers; they looked entirely different. The King was tall, his face was slender looking calm and composed at all times.

"Hiram, do you have any news about Kyrah?" Marsel asked worriedly.

"No, I am afraid not, Your Majesty. We are trying our best," he said, equally worried. "Sadly, she is nowhere to be found in this region."

"We need to go to the Sholak Stone House. It is said that the prayers of shape shifting serpents are answered there. I am sure if we both go with earnest hope, Kyrah would be found soon," gushed the sad Queen.

"But who will take care of this kingdom? The journey takes two weeks to complete."

"Don't worry Your Majesty, I promise to take care of all the matters," Hiram encouraged them.

"Thank you, brother. Without you things would have been very difficult," the king said and hugged his brother solemnly.

"I bid farewell to all my loyal servants. Ensure that you follow minister Hiram's orders till we return."

With that, Marsel took Lilah's hand in his and returned to their royal chamber. They started to shift, their eyes turned bright green and their lower body changed into a huge tail.

"Are you ready?" he asked his wife. The Queen nodded in reply and soon both of them shifted completely.

Their snake forms were of a beautiful brown color, marked intricately with scales, their hoods depicting small crowns, as symbols of royalty.
They hissed at each other lovingly, entwining their tails together.

"Do you think Kyrah will be mad at us for not informing her about our identities? She doesn't even know that she will become one of us, soon," Lilah asked, opening a mind link between them. "Should we inform her about her first shift?"

"Honestly, I don't know Lilah. She is just like a small child, stubborn yet innocent. I am very worried about her reaction. As far as her first shift is concerned, you know we can't inform her about it, it's forbidden in our world. She will know and is capable of handling it herself. I believe in our child," he finished. A tear rolled down from his blazing green eye.

"Don't you cry sweetheart, I believe our daughter is safe and will return to us soon," she consoled him.

"But, what about the legend? You know what it says. How will we protect her? She is not even with us!" his voice was filled with sorrow. "I don't want to lose her..."

"Shh! Calm down. Everything is going to be okay, trust me. We need to believe in our prayers. Let's get going. The sooner we reach, the better," she said, stroking his tail with hers.

They moved by lateral undulation, the name for the characteristic "wavy" movement. Leaving their once happy home behind, they moved at a faster pace.

"She didn't even meet Prince Judewin once!" Marsel said, startling Lilah, who was lost in her thoughts. "He is perfect for her and would surely keep her happy. We just want her happiness. Why isn't she able to understand that?"

"I know, I was thinking of the same thing. How long will she stay like this? She needs to be mature and has to understand the traditions of our kingdom. She was betrothed to Prince Judewin when she was born. We cannot go back on our word now," she sighed.

They continued moving ahead quietly, wishing to reach the desired destination in due time.

Meanwhile at the palace, a servant asked, "What are your orders minister Hiram?"

"Double the men in the search team. We need the princess back as soon as possible. You may all leave for now," Hiram ordered.

The servants left one by one leaving Hiram alone. He looked at himself in the mirror. An evil smirk formed on his face, scaring even the mirror in front of him...
